1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji of Sri Pejavara Adhokshaja Matha, Udupi, along with other dignitaries in New Delhi yesterday. On the occasion, PM Modi unveiled the logo of the Birth Centenary Celebrations of Padma Vibhushan Yatikula Chakravarti Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji.
2. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced biennial elections for five seats in the 78-member Maharashtra Legislative Council. Polling will be held on 23rd October, while counting of votes will take place on 27th October.

8. The 11th Ayurveda Day will be celebrated in Nagpur today by the Ministry of Ayush, based on the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthy Future.” The inaugural ceremony will be held at the Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Nagpur from 9 to 10 AM.

14. The Indian government has made Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification mandatory for smartphone screen protectors under Indian Standard IS 19348:2025. The rule will apply from 1 April 2027 to manufacturers and importers selling screen protectors in India.
15. Former Justice R. C. Chavan resigned from Maharashtra’s seven-member Uniform Civil Code committee on 19 September 2026. The committee was formed in July 2026 to prepare a framework for implementing a common civil code in the state.

1. In Bihar’s Jamui district, police have arrested five accused, including the main accused, Nandan Yadav, in with the alleged molestation and misbehaviour with a minor girl. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has written to Director General of Police Preeti Verma, seeking a detailed action-taken report within seven days.
2. The Uttar Pradesh government has carried out a major administrative reshuffle, transferring 34 IAS officers last night. District Magistrates of 14 districts have also been changed.
3. Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has advised against the indiscriminate use of painkillers and antibiotics, highlighting the associated risk of Chronic Kidney Disease. According to a circular, all drugs, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and antibiotics, are required to be sold and distributed in the country on prescription of Registered Medical Practitioner and specialist only.
4. The Government has debunked several videos circulating on social media claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made announcements related to the purchase of old notes and coins. The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau said that these videos are fake and have been created using Artificial Intelligence technology.
5. Government has urged bank employees to refrain from resorting to strikes, work towards resolving issues through dialogue, and ensure that banking services remain uninterrupted. The appeal comes ahead of a three-day nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions and certain other Unions and Associations in the Public Sector Banks from 28th to 30th September.
6. The Indian government has amended the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 to require origin-based symbols on selected personal care products. The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Fourth Amendment Rules, 2026 were notified on 21 September 2026 and came into force on publication in the Official Gazette.
The amended rules require a green dot for products of vegetarian origin and a red or brown dot for products of non-vegetarian origin. The symbols must be placed at the top of the principal display panel on packages of soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, cosmetics, and toiletries.

The fire broke out in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Telangana’s Adilabad, It is reportedly linked to a suspected short circuit in an AC unit. Three newborns died and two others are in critical condition. Twenty-two other babies were safely evacuated.

1. The second edition of the Indian Air Force’s multinational air exercise TARANG SHAKTI 2026 will be conducted from 26th September to 12th October at Air Force Station, Jodhpur and adjoining air bases.
2. DRDO is preparing to move its 30-kW-class directed-energy counter-drone system toward production through an industry partnership. Reports say the system is designed to counter drones at ranges of up to about 5 km.
3. India and Japan discussed expanding defence-technology cooperation, joint military exercises and Indo-Pacific security during talks in New Delhi. The Japanese delegation also visited Indian institutions involved in technology and defence-related work.

1. RBI has issued Basel III Market Risk Directions 2026 for commercial banks, adopting the Simplified Standardised Approach with effect from April 1, 2027.
2. State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has made gas discovery in the deepwater basin of Mahanadi in Odisha, which is the first-ever discovery from a well drilled by the company in line with its Samudra Manthan programme. ONGC declared the discovery on September 18 through the well named MN-DW18-1-H-D. This well has been drilled to the targeted depth of 1,623 metres with gas presence found in between 1,441 metres and 1,452 metres. Encouraging gas flow was found during the initial tests along with reservoir pressure.
