Pakistan overtakes Afghanistan as the most terror hit country

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. United Nations Regional Workshop on “Measuring Tourism: Better data for better tourism in Asia and the Pacific” kicked off in Kathmandu on the 15th of March.

2. Himachal Pradesh University has organised the first Shimla Art Summit, which saw participation from over 50 artists, including those from Russia and Nepal.

3. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has been named ‘Governor of the Year’ for 2023 by the international economic research journal Central Banking. He is the second Indian central bank governor to have won the award, with the first being Raghuram Rajan in 2015.

4. Indian consulate in Australia’s Brisbane was temporarily shut down on Wednesday due to Khalistan supporters. “Slogans were raised against Hindus calling them supremacists,” local media reported. The incident comes after several Hindu temples in the country were defaced with anti-India graffiti. Australian PM Anthony Albanese recently assured that safety of the Indian community is a priority.

5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed distress at the devastation due to Cyclone Freddy in Malawi, Mozambique and Madagascar.

1. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to two- day visit to Japan.

2. Pakistani security forces withdrew from around former PM Imran Khan’s home on Wednesday, putting a halt to clashes that erupted after police tried to arrest him. He was seen stepping out wearing a gas mask. Security forces had fired tear gas and water cannons at Khan’s supporters, who had cordoned off his home to prevent his arrest.

3. UK’s Prince William was heckled by protesters outside Westminster Abbey on Monday with the latter holding placards and screaming “You’re never going to be our king”. Several other slogans were heard, including “down with monarchy” and “not my king”. The protests come ahead of King Charles III’s coronation ceremony, which is slated to be held in May.

4. Political advisors to Chinese government have proposed 20 recommendations to encourage citizens to have more babies amid declining birth rates. The proposals range from subsidies for families raising their first child, rather than just the second and third, to improving access to fertility treatments. Earlier, several Chinese provinces offered 30 days of paid ‘marriage leave’ to boost birth rates.

5. Ecuador, Argentina expel envoys amid diplomatic clash
Both Ecuador and Argentina have expelled each other’s Ambassador as a result of their disagreement over the handling of María Angeles Duarte, who served in the Cabinet of then Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.

6. Hundreds of travellers at Hong Kong’s international airport faced delays on Thursday after computer services broke down, broadcaster TVB reported, with footage showing scores of people stuck in queues with their luggage.

7. Pakistan overtakes Afghanistan as the most terror-hit country. A report by Australia based Institute for Economics and Peace states that Pakistan has recorded a 120 per cent increase in terror related deaths with Balochistan Liberation Army the fastest growing terror group.
