1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday shared his thoughts with the nation in the Mann Ki Baat programme on Akashvani. In his address,
(a) PM Modi strongly warned against the social perils of drug abuse. He highlighted that Nasha-Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ campaign for a drug-free youth and a drug-free India is gaining momentum, with people joining in large numbers.
(b) The Prime Minister also championed women-led economic empowerment through the PM SVANidhi scheme with nearly 35 lakh females across the country using the scheme to expand their businesses.
(c) PM Modi celebrated growing avenues for women in advanced fields like the space industry.
(d) Prime Minister Modi also praised groundbreaking grassroots innovations in agriculture and digital technology. He lauded innovative farmers across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu who shifted to or integrated avocado cultivation.
(e) PM Modi noted that in the coming days, India is set to celebrate several more significant festivals, urging people to embrace ‘Vocal for Local’ during the festive season.
2. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing to launch EOS-05, also known as GISAT-1A, on 4 September 2026 from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The 2,367 kg Earth Observation Satellite will be carried by the GSLV-F17 launch vehicle into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.
EOS-05 is an Earth observation satellite designed for imaging and monitoring applications.
3. The Department of Consumer Affairs notified the Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2026, under Section 52 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, on 27 August 2026. The rules make Indian Standard Time (IST) the sole mandatory time reference for legal, administrative, commercial and official purposes across India.
4. Tamil Nadu has notified three elephant corridors within the Hosur forest division that includes more than 10,300 hectares as an initiative towards safeguarding critical elephant routes connecting Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. These corridors are situated in the Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary and adjoining reserved forests.
5. India recorded nearly an 80% decline in malaria cases and deaths between 2015 and 2025, with 160 districts reporting zero indigenous cases during 2022-2025.
6. Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday dedicated four major projects developed under the Karnal Smart City initiative. The projects, developed at a combined cost of around Rs 23.67 crore, include an Observation Home, two Community Centres and the beautification of Shaheed Udham Singh Park.
7. Asian Games gold medallist Manpreet Kaur, farmer leader Nirmal Singh and 38 others from Punjab joined the BJP on Sunday, ahead of the state Assembly elections scheduled early next year, the party said.
8. Ahead of the Congress completing 1,000 days in power on September 1, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the government on Sunday reiterated its commitment to transform Telangana into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
9. Satish Golcha Gets New Posting in Delhi Home Guards Directorate
Satish Golcha, who had earlier served as the Commissioner of Police for Delhi, has been posted with a fresh posting in the Home Guards Directorate of the Delhi government. Golcha has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and he is expected to head the Home Guards department as its Director General from 1 October 2026.
10. Noted oceanographer and scientist Dr Srinivasa Kumar Tummala has taken charge as the Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) of the Government of India.

1. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed mandatory front-of-pack warning labels for packaged foods high in sugar, salt and saturated fat. The proposal was placed before the Supreme Court of India in a compliance affidavit and includes red-coloured, hexagonal warning symbols for specified food products.
2. Ladakh is all set to get the sittings of the High Court within the Union Territory as it gets better judicial facilities nearer to its citizens. Regulation 235 has been issued by President Droupadi Murmu on August 27, only one week after the Union Cabinet gave its nod to this plan. The move has been made to help litigants in overcoming the hardships they face in reaching the common High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as they have to travel outside Ladakh for attending the court.
3. IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) late on Saturday night in connection with irregularities in the veterinary examination conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).
4. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said her government has taken several scientific measures to tackle the Capital’s legacy waste problem and reclaimed approximately 100 acres across the Okhla, Bhalswa and Ghazipur landfill sites so far.
5. A Special Court on Saturday (August 29) refused to cancel the bail granted to four rights activists booked in the Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case. The Special Court has, however, ‘cautioned’ the accused persons against breaching the conditions imposed on them while granting them bail.
The Bhima Koregaon–Elgar Parishad case is a major and highly controversial criminal case in India involving the violence at Bhima Koregaon, Maharashtra, on 1 January 2018, and allegations of a broader conspiracy involving the Elgar Parishad event held in Pune on 31 December 2017.
On 1 December 2017: Elgar Parishad, a public meeting commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon, was held at Shaniwarwada in Pune.
1 January 2018: Violence occurred around the Bhima Koregaon memorial. One person died and many people were injured. There were allegations and competing claims about who was responsible for provoking or carrying out the violence.

A major fire broke out in the basement of a timber and plywood godown in West Delhi’s Mundka area on Sunday, August 30, 2026, with authorities confirming that no casualties or injuries occurred.Incident Overview. 25 fire tenders and over 100 firefighters from the Delhi Fire Service battled the flames.
Location: Assam Timber Market, near Rajdhani Metro Station, Mundka, West Delhi.
2. In a tragic incident, at Avinashi Road in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, 12 LPG cylinders exploded, triggering a massive fire at a temporary housing unit for migrant workers at Nava India in the city on Saturday afternoon.
The migrant workers worked at a construction company and were staying in temporary shelter near their work site. The blast occurred in one of the shelters allotted as a canteen when a worker reportedly switched on an LPG cylinder to prepare tea.

1. The Indian government has sent 10 tons of the disaster relief and humanitarian aid to Nepal as a result of floods which have claimed lives and resulted in numerous people being reported missing. The materials, which include medicine and emergency supplies, were delivered using the Indian Air Force C-130J plane as part of the ongoing efforts for rescue and relief operations.
2. The Indian Army set to acquire the US-made FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missiles, thus putting an end to the quest for the state-of-the-art “tank killer” that had been going on for almost 17 years now. The first contract has already been signed using the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) procedure and the procurement process is carried out utilizing the emergency powers of the Army.
3. Russia has now formally responded to India’s tender for five additional S-400 “Sudarshan” squadrons, in a proposed deal estimated at more than ₹50,000 crore. The Indian Defence Ministry is currently processing the Russian proposal.
The S-400 is a long-range, multi-layered surface-to-air missile system designed to engage aircraft and various aerial threats at different ranges and altitudes. India’s experience with the system during Operation Sindoor has reportedly strengthened the case for expanding the fleet.
Indian Air Force Western Air Command chief Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra has claimed that an S-400 achieved a 314-km surface-to-air engagement against a Pakistani surveillance aircraft during the operation.
