1. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar held a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov in Delhi. He highlighted that bilateral relations between India and Uzbekistan have expanded over the years and span a diverse range of domains.
2. India plans to invest ₹45,000 crore in railway infrastructure along the borders with China, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The programme covers new tracks, platforms and network strengthening in border states and is scheduled for implementation over the next 18 to 24 months.

The project includes railway works in Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam and other north-eastern states.
3. Vishwesh Negi, an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 2002 batch, was appointed on 3 August 2026 as India’s next Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran. He is serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi .

1. The situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoJK) worsened overnight as protesters refused to disperse and security forces allegedly opened fire on demonstrators. Reports from PoJK said that the security forces launched a midnight crackdown on protesters, with gunfire reported in Rawalakot.
2. Iran said there are no talks under way with the United States and no plans for any meetings, contradicting U.S. President Donald Trump, who had said negotiations through intermediaries were scheduled.
3. Willie Walsh assumed charge as the Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo on 3 August 2026. IndiGo had announced his appointment in March 2026, and he succeeded Pieter Elbers, who resigned as CEO on 10 March 2026.
