1. The 2026 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXIII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Glasgow 2026, was a multi-sport event held from 23 July to 2 August 2026 in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, for members of the Commonwealth of Nations.
India finished the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 4th place with 39 total medals: 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze.
Top Standings and Overall PodiumAustralia: Finished 1st with 70 gold, 45 silver, and 55 bronze (170 total).England: Finished 2nd with 29 gold, 45 silver, and 36 bronze (110 total).Canada: Finished 3rd with 19 gold, 20 silver, and 23 bronze (62 total).India: Finished 4th with 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze (39 total, ahead of Scotland on silver count).
2. In Badminton, India’s Tanvi Sharma claimed her maiden BWF World Tour title, defeating Vietnam’s 6th-seeded Nguyen Thuy Linh 21-16, 21-16 to win the Taipei Open Super women’s singles title. The 17-year old Tanvi became the youngest Taipei Open champion surpassing Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying. She is also the first Indian woman to win the title since Saina Nehwal in 2008.
3. Union Cabinet approved a revamped Khelo India Scheme and an enhanced Assistance to National Sports Federations Scheme on 31 July 2026. The combined outlay is Rs 36,441 crore for the period 2026-27 to 2030-31. The package covers grassroots talent identification, athlete development, sports infrastructure, and support for national federations.
