1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CSS) to review the situation in the context of on-going West Asia conflict and measures taken by various Ministries and Departments.
2. Rajya Sabha passed the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, on 29 July 2026. The Bill amends the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, and extends legal protection to the national song, Vande Mataram, alongside the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana.
3. Polling concluded peacefully for by-elections to three Assembly constituencies in Bihar, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh yesterday. Voting was held for Bankipur constituency in Bihar, Manjalpur in Gujarat, and Datia in Madhya Pradesh.
4. The Delhi Traffic Police issues advisory in view of Kanwar Yatra,
special traffic arrangements in the Southern Range till the 11th of next month.
5. In conformity with the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the state government of West Bengal will implement a new syllabus for government and government-aided schools in the state. The new syllabus will come into force in 2028, and some revisions will be made to the syllabus in 2027.
6. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has announced a major reform in India’s national accounting system by replacing the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) with the Output Producer Price Index (PPI) as the GDP deflator for quarterly and annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates, wherever applicable. The move aims to improve the accuracy of real GDP estimation.
7. To commemorate the completion of four years as the President of India, President Droupadi Murmu launched a series of citizen-centric and sustainability-focused initiatives at Rashtrapati Bhavan and the President’s Estates in New Delhi. The initiatives aim to improve visitor experience, preserve India’s heritage, promote sustainability, and enhance public engagement with Rashtrapati Bhavan.
8. The Chhattisgarh Government has launched Decentralised Women Empowerment on Energy and Policy for Transformative Inclusion (DWEEPTI) Yojana, India’s first women-led distributed renewable energy policy.
9. Odisha remains on high alert as floodwaters continue to swell the Mahanadi river system, with the season’s biggest flood discharge expected to reach Mundali.
10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red colour warning for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra.
11. In Keralam, Orange Alert, indicating isolated very heavy rainfall, has been declared in five districts, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur districts.
12. The IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in five Telangana districts on Friday. Several other districts, including Hyderabad, are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain as the monsoon remains active across the State. (Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu and Kamareddy districts).

1. The Indian government has dismissed 11 road ministry officials following structural failures across 19 National Highway projects over the past two years, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari informed Rajya Sabha. Seven of the 19 affected projects are located in Kerala, whilst other failures occurred across Gujarat, Rajasthan and several additional states.
2. CBI opposes bail of IAS officer Pankaj Agarwal, alleges role in Rs 657 crore bank scam: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the CBI Special Court, Haryana, on Thursday that IAS officer Pankaj Agarwal functioned as a close associate of the mastermind of the Rs 657 crore scam, Ribhav Rishi, and received monetary and “unethical” benefits from him.
3. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) suspended the nutraceutical licence of Dior Pharmaceuticals on 30 July 2026. The suspension order followed findings of serious violations and deficient good manufacturing practices at the company’s nutraceutical plant in Punjab.
4. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted searches at sixteen locations in Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Mumbai in connection with a money laundering investigation linked to the alleged terror funding of the 2022 Coimbatore bomb blast.
5. The Supreme Court directed the Delhi government to provide proper medical treatment to persons injured by the alleged use of pellet guns during recent students’ protest in the national capital. The three judge bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant was hearing a plea alleging the use of metallic pellet guns on students protesting at Jantar Mantar and other parts of Delhi.
6. The Delhi Government has said that Delhi Police will not take any legal adverse action against individuals who participated in the NEET (UG) Protest Demonstrations in the national capital, but those with criminal backgrounds will have to face action.
7. The Supreme Court has sought the response of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other AAP leaders on the Chandigarh Administration’s plea against the quashing of a 2020 riots case by the High Court.

Heavy rainfall over the past three days has caused several rivers and streams to swell across various districts of Chhattisgarh, disrupting road connectivity between many villages and their respective district headquarters. In view of the rising water levels, the administration has advised people living along riverbanks to remain alert.
A portion of a bridge under construction across a river near Amli village in the Udanti area of Gariaband district was washed away due to the strong current. The bridge is being built on the road connecting Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

1. The Indian Navy has launched Machilipatnam, the seventh of the eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) being constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). The launch marks another significant milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen its coastal security and enhance maritime defence capabilities under the country’s indigenous shipbuilding programme.
2. Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a self-reliant defence ecosystem, declaring that India’s resolve is to become a developed nation by 2047 and to transform the Indian Air Force into the most powerful air force in the world through indigenous capabilities and innovation.
3. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh felicitated nine women officers in New Delhi on 30 July 2026 for completing the first-ever Tri-service all-women circumnavigation sailing expedition named Samudra Pradakshina. The expedition was undertaken on the Indian Army Sailing Vessel Triveni and covered about 25,500 nautical miles across four oceans in 314 days.
The expedition began with a virtual flag-off from the Gateway of India, Mumbai, on 11 September 2025. The crew was virtually flagged-in in Mumbai on 22 July 2026 after completing the voyage. Circumnavigation is a global sailing route that requires passage across all meridians of longitude and at least one crossing of the Equator.

1. Brookfield launched a renewable energy platform named Lumara in India on 30 July 2026. The platform will deploy about $600 million for solar, wind, and battery storage projects, and it will begin with an initial portfolio of more than 6 GW of capacity.
2. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) approved the acquisition of Magma General Insurance by Patanjali Ayurved and the DS Group on 28 July 2026. The transaction is valued at about Rs 4,500 crore and involves the purchase of equity stakes from existing shareholders.
3. DBS Bank has created history by becoming the first Southeast Asian bank to be named “World’s Best Corporate Bank” at the Global Finance Global Bank Awards 2026. The prestigious recognition marks the first time a bank from Southeast Asia has won this global title since the award category was introduced in 2005.

Nitish Bharadwaj, best known for playing Lord Krishna in BR Chopra’s iconic 1988 television series Mahabharat, has showered praise on the trailer of Ramayana, which was released yesterday.
The film is set to be released in two parts, with the first instalment scheduled to release worldwide in October 2026 ahead of Diwali, while the second part is slated for Diwali 2027.
