Murali Sreeshankar added another chapter to Indian athletics history on Wednesday, becoming the country’s first long jump double medallist in Commonwealth Games with a silver in Glasgow on Wednesday.
Sreeshankar recorded a best jump of 8.09m to secure silver, finishing just behind Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle, who won gold with a leap of 8.15m. Scotland’s Stephen Mackenzie took bronze with 8.08m.
Having claimed silver in Birmingham in 2022, the 27-year-old added another medal to his collection.
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar on winning the silver medal in the men’s long jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, calling it a “proud moment for Indian Athletics.”
