In the Commonwealth Games,
(a) Indian swimmer Srihari Nataraj secured his place in the men’s 100m backstroke semifinals after finishing fifth in Heat 4 with a time of 55.58 seconds.
(b) India’s para swimmers also delivered strong performances, with RVVBK Budigina and Ali Imam advancing to the men’s 50m freestyle S13 final. Budigina finished third in Heat 1 with a timing of 26.33 seconds, while Ali Imam qualified after placing fifth in Heat 2 with a time of 28.41 seconds.
(c) In athletics , Indian sprinter Vishal TK progressed to the men’s 400m semifinals after finishing second in Heat 6 with a time of 46.49 seconds.
Rajesh Ramesh, who clocked 47.43 seconds to finish third in Heat 3, narrowly missed out on a semifinal spot.
(d) Valluri Ajaya Babu is an Indian weightlifter from Andhra Pradesh who won the silver medal in the men’s 79kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, on 27 July 2026. He lifted a total of 330kg, with 149kg in the snatch and 181kg in the clean and jerk.
(e) Sharmila Dhankar won the gold medal in the women’s F57 shot put event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on 27 July 2026. She recorded a season-best throw of 9.81 metres. Her victory ended India’s 20-year wait for a para athletics medal at the Commonwealth Games, with India’s previous medal in this category dating to 2006.
(f) Sarvesh Anil Kushare won silver in the men’s high jump in Glasgow. The Indian national record holder successfully jumped over 2.25 metres, with this he achieved the first medal at a multi-sport tournament and breaking the India’s previous bronze medal record in the event at the Commonwealth Games.
India currently sits eighth in the Commonwealth Games medal standings with a tally of 10 medals including two gold, five silver, and three bronze.
2. In Shooting, India’s Sonam Uttam Maskar and Himanshu Dhillon secured the bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event at the ongoing ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in Hangzhou, China.
3. The 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026 commenced in New Delhi on 27 July.
