1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu has concluded her State Visit to Romania and departed for New Delhi yesterday afternoon. During the visit, the President held wide-ranging talks with her Romanian counterpart, President Nicușor Dan, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, defence, digital technology, education, renewable energy, and culture.
2. All 28 Indian crew members aboard the Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker DISHA are safe following an attack on the vessel in Iranian territorial waters. The Embassy of India in Tehran confirmed this and acknowledged the incident involving the LPG tanker DISHA.
3. India and Tanzania have reviewed bilateral ties across diverse sectors, including trade and investment, development partnership, defence and security cooperation, digital public infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, culture, and people-to-people ties.
4. India and Israel concluded the second round of negotiations for the proposed India-Israel Free Trade Agreement (FTA). During the four-day negotiations, between the 20th and 23rd of this month in New Delhi, both sides held detailed discussions across all areas of the proposed Agreement and continued to make progress towards a balanced, comprehensive and mutually beneficial FTA.
5. United States imposed new Section 301 tariffs on 60 countries on 24 July 2026 under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974. India was placed in the lower 10% additional tariff bracket instead of the initially proposed 12.5% rate, and the tariffs took effect on 25 July 2026.
*Section 301 is a trade remedy provision in the US Trade Act of 1974. It allows the United States Trade Representative to take action against foreign trade practices that are found to be unjustifiable, unreasonable, or discriminatory.

1. Ukrainian attacks on holiday camps in the partly Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia region have killed 12 people, while authorities in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region said a Russian drone strike killed three people there.
2. China has banned the export of dual-use goods to 14 European entities. Specifically, restrictions were imposed on defense giant Rheinmetall and the Czech company Tatra Trucks in response to the EU’s 21st package of sanctions against Russia.
3. Iran has criticised the European Union over its latest sanctions against Iranian officials over alleged human rights violations, accusing the bloc of hypocrisy and describing its approach as the banality of evil.
4. European Commission fined Google €890 million on 23 July 2026 for breaches of European Union online competition rules. The penalty was imposed under the European Union’s 2022 Digital Markets Act, which regulates large digital platforms designated as gatekeepers.
5. Yemen’s Houthi group claimed that it carried out missile strikes on industrial facilities in Jizan in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
6. UN Secretary-General António Guterres appealed to the international community to support the people of Syria at the start of his first visit to the Arab country as UN Chief, nearly two years after the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
7. The Afghan government has announced that a total of 14,539 Afghan refugee families returned to the country from neighbouring Pakistan and Iran over the past month. The total number of returned Afghan refugee families has reached 97,277. The majority of the returnees came from Pakistan.
8. SpaceX’s giant Starship rocket successfully completed its latest test flight travelling halfway around the world and deploying 20 advanced Starlink satellites. The 124-metre rocket launched from Texas.
9. Severe wildfires in Spain and France have forced thousands of people to leave their homes as firefighters struggle to control the flames.
