1. The Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on One Nation, One Election, Member of Parliament P. P. Chaudhary, today said that holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies would strengthen governance, reduce expenditure and benefit the country’s economy.

2. Preparations have officially begun for the 14th International Tourism Mart (ITM) 2026, which will be hosted in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. A preliminary coordination meeting was held at the Circuit House in Tawang to prepare a comprehensive plan for the successful organization of the event. The event aims to promote tourism potential in Northeast India and attract domestic as well as international visitors.

3. Legendary playback singer S Janaki fondly known as the Nightingale of the South passed away at the age of 88 today in Mysuru, Karnataka after battling age related health issues.

4. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced a major policy shift from population control to population conservation, Addressing the World Population Day programme in Vijayawada, he launched the “Pillale Sampada” (Children are Wealth) initiative and said that Andhra Pradesh would encourage balanced population growth to secure its future.

5. Kharif sowing has gained momentum in Maharashtra following the revival of the southwest monsoon. sowing has been completed on over 6.51 million hectares, covering 45 per cent of the state’s average Kharif area of 14.44 million hectares.

6. The government of West Bengal has formed a nine-member committee to examine the draft bill of uniform civil code for the state. A notification has already been published in connection with this. Justice (retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai would be the Chairperson. Former Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy is one of the members of the committee.

7. The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme has crossed the milestone of sanctioning loans to more than two lakh micro food processing enterprises across the country.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a field inspection at the Medha railway coach components manufacturing facility located in the Nandigama area on the outskirts of Sangareddy district in Telangana. Spanning across 375 acres, the massive industrial unit showcases significant advancements in the modernisation of Railways.

9. Union Railway and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced plans to develop Hyderabad as a major high-speed rail hub, with proposed bullet train corridors linking the city to Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru.

11. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in NCR and adjoining areas has conducted a special inspection drive in Noida and Greater Noida to assess the redevelopment of urban roads in accordance with the Commission’s Standard Framework.

12. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across the northern and Eastern parts of the country for the next four to five days.

1. The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has conducted searches at 20 locations across Assam, Mizoram, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh in connection with an alleged organised syndicate involved in smuggling foreign-origin areca nuts from Myanmar and laundering the proceeds of crime.

2. Members of the Student Federation of India (SFI) held a hunger strike on Saturday demanding the abolition of the NEET exam, resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over irregularities in the test, and dismantling of the National Testing Agency (NTA) amid allegations of repeated malpractice.

3. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday said it has initiated a FEMA investigation and conducted searches against a Mumbai-based film producer, linked to actor Shekhar Suman, and his company on charges of holding undisclosed foreign assets and other alleged irregularities.

4. In Keralam, the state government has constituted a five-member expert committee to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the Kalladi landslide in Wayanad.

*A devastating landslide struck a tunnel construction site near Kalladi, Meppadi, in Wayanad, Kerala on July 7, 2026. Triggered by heavy monsoon rains, a massive mass of mud, rocks, and excavated debris buried the under-construction Anakkampoyil-Kalladi-Meppadi twin-tunnel project. The disaster resulted in multiple fatalities and left several people missing.

Fifteen Indian tourists were killed after a boat capsized near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island yesterday. The Embassy of India in Vietnam confirmed that the deceased include 13 men and two women. In a post on social media, the Embassy shared the list of the victims, stating that the names were provided by the Vietnamese authorities.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today said that India is building a strong, self-reliant and future-ready defence force by strengthening both conventional defence capabilities and advanced technologies. was addressing the commissioning ceremony of the INS Mahendragiri, the sixth Project 17A indigenous stealth frigate, into the Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam.

2. India has formally commissioned INS Mahendragiri, a 6,670-ton indigenous stealth frigate capable of carrying the supersonic BrahMos missile, into the Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam.

3. The Defence Research and Development Organisation is poised to receive a full‑time Chairman within days, with the government’s selection process now in its final phase after more than a month of vacancy at the top. The post has remained unoccupied since the retirement of Dr Samir V. Kamat on 31 May.

Sistla Sreeramamurthy Janaki (23 April 1938 – 11 July 2026) was an Indian playback singer and occasional music composer. She was widely referred to as Janaki amma and Nightingale of Deccan. She was one of the greatest and most influential singers in the history of Indian music.

Janaki Amma has recorded over 48,000 songs in films, albums, television, and radio, which includes solos, duets, chorus and title tracks in 20 Indian languages, predominantly in her mother tongue Telugu, including Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Sanskrit, Odia, Tulu, Urdu, Punjabi, Badaga, Bengali, Konkani, as well as in foreign languages such as English, Japanese, German, and Sinhala. She was one of the most versatile singers in India.
