2. In Men’s Cricket, the first T20 International between India and England was abandoned due to rain in Chester-le-Street yesterday. The five-match series now stands level at 0-0.
3. The 135th Edition of Durand Cup will kick off from July 25 in Kolkata and will be held across Ranchi, Imphal, Shillong and Guwahati till August 23. Kolkata will once again serve as the tournament’s hub, hosting the opening match, two quarter-finals, one semi-final and the final at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan and Kishore Bharati Krirangan.
The Durand Cup is the oldest existing football tournament in Asia and the fifth oldest in the world. First held in 1888 in Shimla, it serves as the traditional curtain-raiser for the Indian football season, featuring a mix of Indian Super League (ISL) clubs and invitee teams from the Indian Armed Forces.
4. In the FIFA World Cup, Belgium staged a stunning comeback to beat Senegal 3-2 after extra time in the Round of 32 and qualify for the Round of 16. Youri Tielemans scored a 125th-minute penalty to seal a dramatic 3-2 victory and extend Belgium’s unbeaten run to 17 matches.
(b) England defeated the Democratic Republic of the Congo 2-1 in Atlanta, with Harry Kane scoring twice in the final 15 minutes. England will face co-hosts Mexico in the Round of 16 on July 6.
(c) In another Round 32 clash Mexico beat Ecuador 2-0 in Mexico City to reach the Round of 16. France defeated Sweden 3-0 in New York, while Norway edged Ivory Coast 2-1 in Texas to book their place in the last 16.
