1. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a public service centre at Netanar village in Bastar district during his visit to Chhattisgarh.

7. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta yesterday travelled by ‘Metro under Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ and ‘Metro Monday’ campaign to promote public transport and fuel conservation.
8. In Sikkim, LPG supply and distribution situation across the state remains normal and stable. Official sources said that, as on date, the total pending LPG refill bookings in the state are only 3,839 number, while the average daily refill delivery being carried out is around 3,330 numbers.
9. The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has won all the five assembly seats of Darjeeling district and the lone seat of Kalimpong district of West Bengal. The party has held Victory Rally at Matigarha-Naxalbari yesterday. The BJP , MLA Anand Berman addressing the Rally has said that Siliguri soon be created as New District and creation of a new Corporation may soon be proposed comprising Naxalbari-Shivmandir-Bagdogra.
10. Tamil Nadu CM Vijay has ordered the renovation and modernisation of Amma Unavagams across the state. The move follows reports about the quality and taste of food served at the subsidised canteens. Currently, 383 Amma Canteens are functioning under the Greater Chennai Corporation, while another 237 are being operated by municipal corporations and municipalities across the state.
11. Fruit Research Centre in Sangareddy district, Telangana distributes nearly 2 lakh saplings every year to farmers as part of efforts to promote rich horticulture harvest.
12. In the run-up to the May 26th Civic Bodies elections in Punjab, as many as 10,809 candidates have filed the nomination papers. Saturday was the last day for filing nominations. Elections will be held for 105 civic bodies, including 8 municipal corporations.

1. The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Deepak Singla in an alleged bank fraud case.
2. The Government of West Bengal has constituted two inquiry commissions to investigate institutional corruption and atrocities against women, in line with the election promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the formation of the two commissions, following approval from the state cabinet.
3. The Supreme Court on Monday (May 18) expressed reservations about the judgment delivered by a two-judge bench in January this year in Gulfisha Fatima v. State (which denied bail to Umar Khalid & Sharjeel Imam in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy case) saying that it did not properly follow the judgment delivered by a three-judge bench in 2021 in Union of India v. KA Najeeb which recognised long delay in trial as a ground for bail in cases under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

1. At least 13 people were killed, and 20 others were critically injured in a road accident involving a truck carrying a marriage party and a container in Dhanivari in Palghar district of Maharashtra.
2. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief at the loss of lives in a road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri of Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Modi announced ex gratia of 2 lakh rupees from Prime Minister National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given 50 thousand rupees.
At least nine people were killed in a road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The accident took place near Adalispur village on the Pilibhit-Basti highway, 40 km from the district headquarters.

1. The Indian Ocean Ship Sagar yesterday departed Colombo, Sri Lanka following a successful three-day port call. Ministry of Defence said that the visit further reinforces the enduring maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka and advancing India’s vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR).
2. India’s first Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) will be launched on May 20, 2026, by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, which will deliver 4 such warships to the navy.
3. In Jammu and Kashmir, ahead of the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, the army organised a training programme for Village Defence Groups in the Ramban district to enhance local security, improve preparedness and strengthen coordination with residents along the pilgrimage route.
The training programme aims to create stronger cooperation between security agencies and local communities while reinforcing safety measures across vulnerable areas during the yatra period.
4. Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, inaugurated the Naval Sailing Node at Bhojtaal in Bhopal on May 17, 2026.
5. Two US fighter jets collided mid-air during an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho on Sunday. According to local media reports, the aircraft involved in the accident were two EA-18G Growler fighter jets. Emergency response teams rushed to the area after the collision, while thick black smoke was seen rising near the crash site. All four crew members aboard the two fighter jets had safely ejected before the crash.
6. The Indian Navy is set to commission three indigenous vessels –– a stealth frigate, an anti-submarine warfare craft and a survey ship –- in a fresh push to strengthen its operational edge in the Indian Ocean Region, where China has steadily expanded its maritime presence.
