1. PM Modi has arrived in the Netherlands for the second leg of his five-country tour. He was received by the Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen at the Airport. During the visit from 15-17 May, the Prime Minister to hold bilateral talks with Dutch Prime Minister Robb Jetten and to call on their Majesties the King and the Queen.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday reiterated India’s support for safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring its importance for regional stability as well as global energy and food security. After high-level talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister Modi strongly condemned recent attacks on UAE.

3. In Nepal, 492 climbers including 95 Indians to scale Mt Everest in this season. Climbers from 55 countries will scale the highest peak of the world. The United States fielded the largest national contingent with 176 climbers, followed by China with 109 climbers across all peaks, India with 95.

4. India assumes the Chair of the Common Criteria Development Board (CCDB) for the 2026-28 term after being nominated as a chair. This decision was confirmed during the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) in the first quarter meeting which was held in Tokyo, Japan in April 2026.

The Common Criteria Development Board (CCDB) is one of the most important technical bodies in the international cybersecurity framework.

5. The Taliban signs a $46 million deal with Indian company TCRC to build customs labs across Afghanistan. The project aims to modernize trade systems, improve quality standards, and boost technical capacity, but concerns remain over transparency and implementation.

6. India is planning to construct a massive ₹40,000 crore subsea gas pipeline from Oman to Gujarat. This decision comes at that time when Strait of Hormuz crisis disrupted global energy flows in 2026. The central government directed major PSUs to prepare a feasibility report for this ambitious project. If this project implemented it will take 5 to 7 years for construction.

1. Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump described their Beijing talks as historic and landmark as Trump concluded his three-day China visit yesterday.
The two leaders discussed bilateral trade, the Iran conflict and regional issues during several rounds of talks.

2. Thailand has declared Hantavirus a “dangerous communicable disease” amid growing global concern over its spread. The country’s National Communicable Disease Committee approved strict measures, including reporting suspected cases within three hours, disease investigations within 12 hours and a 42-day quarantine for high-risk contacts.

3. A Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv killed at least 24 people, including three children, and injured 45 others. Ukrainian officials said the strikes damaged homes, a school and other civilian buildings.

4. An Ebola outbreak in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo has killed 65 people and infected hundreds of others, triggering concerns that the disease could spread across borders.

5. Israeli and Lebanese officials held a third round of peace talks in Washington to discuss disarming Hezbollah and improving relations between the two countries.
