1. India has appointed senior diplomat Prashant Pise as the new Ambassador to Oman. An Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, he is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
2. The Government of India has increased import duty on gold and silver to 15% to protect foreign exchange reserves and support the Indian rupee. The move comes amid rising global uncertainties, higher crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions affecting import costs.
3. India has launched a $1.5 billion Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool (BMI Pool) to strengthen the shipping and trade ecosystem. The initiative aims to reduce dependence on foreign insurers and ensure uninterrupted insurance coverage for vessels and maritime assets.
4. Nepal’s Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam presented the ‘Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on Criminal Matters’ signed with India for discussion in the parliament. After passing of the bill by the House of Representatives, the agreement on Mutual legal assistance on legal matters will come into implementation.
5. The 17th round of India-Uzbekistan Foreign Office Consultations was held in New Delhi, co-chaired by Secretary (West) Sibi George and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhromjon Aloev. External Affairs Ministry said that during the consultations, both sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations with focus on trade and investment, tourism, technology, innovation, energy, cooperation in educational, cultural fields and other consular issues.

1. Kevin Warsh has been appointed as Governor of the Federal Reserve by the US Senate and is set to become the next Chair of America’s central bank.
2. Pakistan has discussed an expanded regional defence and economic arrangement with Gulf nations, including Qatar and Turkiye, under the idea of an “Islamic NATO”. The proposal follows the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September 2025, under which aggression against one side is treated as an attack on both.
3. The Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement is a bilateral defence pact between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. It was signed in September 2025 and includes a mutual defence commitment between the two states.
4. In Lebanon, eight people were killed in Israeli drone strikes targeting three vehicles on the main highway south of Beirut. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed the three strikes in a statement.
5. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for a historic seventh term, extending his 40-year tenure following a landslide victory in January elections. One of Africa’s longest-serving leaders, Museveni, took the oath of office yesterday.

7. India will be hosting a two-day BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting from today. The meeting will be chaired by External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar.
