1. PM Modi congratulated Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) National President Nitish Kumar on taking oath as a Member of the Rajya Sabha. The Prime Minister also congratulated former Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Harivansh for being nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

2. In Uttar Pradesh, number of electorates grew by over 84 lakh to 13 crore 39 lakh after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision exercise. The Election Commission published the final voter list. Citizens can now verify their names online through official portals such as voters.eci.gov.in.

3. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar held a review meeting with the Central Observers deployed for the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu scheduled to be held on the 23rd of April.

4. Regional airline Fly91 commenced operations from Vijayawada International Airport with the launch of services on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Hyderabad sector. An inaugural ceremony was held at the Vijayawada Airport early in the morning yesterday, with Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu joining virtually.

5. The western districts of Tamil Nadu have been providing a conducive ground for the growth of the BJP, as AIADMK also enjoys a majority there. In the last Assembly elections in 2021, out of the 68 constituencies, 44 constituencies were in favour of the NDA alliance.

6. In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo inaugurated a summit on the upcoming Census 2027 exercise at Abhinav Theatre in Jammu.

7. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged students at Goa University to actively participate in democracy, speaking on the sidelines of the CPA Summit, which he is attending in Goa.

8. The Assam State School Education Board has declared the Class 10 (HSLC) results today, recording an overall pass percentage of 65.62 per cent. Out of 4.29 lakh students who appeared for the examination, boys achieved a pass rate of 67.78 per cent, slightly higher than girls at 63.96 per cent.

9. Advance registration for the annual Amarnath Yatra will begin from April 15 at over 550 designated bank branches across the country. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board said registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to daily quotas for each route. Pilgrims aged between 13 and 70 years will be eligible, while women with over six weeks of pregnancy will not be allowed to undertake the yatra.

10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh today.

1. Delhi Police Special Cell has busted Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and Babbar Khalsa International sponsored terror, arms and espionage module. Additional Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Pramod Singh Kushwaha said eleven accused have been arrested from Punjab and Delhi.

2. In a landmark announcement, Director General of Police Shivdhar Reddy declared Telangana entirely free from armed Maoist formations following the surrender of the remaining Telangana State Committee and PLGA members. This achievement marks a strategic victory for the state in neutralizing left-wing extremism.

3. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, said that Narco-terrorism is no longer a distant threat but sits at the core of security, economic and governance challenges. Addressing the International Conference on Countering Narco-Terrorism in New Delhi, Mr Sandhu emphasised the need for stronger coordination, smarter use of technology and a balanced approach that focuses on prevention as much as enforcement.

4. In a major crackdown on organised gold smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has conducted Operation Dhahabu Blitz, leading to the recovery of over 25 kilograms of gold bars and 4.27 kilograms of gold jewellery that were illegally being smuggled into the country. DRI officials identified a group of female carriers arriving from Nairobi attempting to smuggle large quantities of gold.

5. Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu. Justice Verma is facing impeachment proceedings after piles of burnt currency notes were found at his residence.

In Uttar Pradesh, 10 people died when a boat capsized in Yamuna river in Mathura district today. The incident occurred around 2:45 PM, when a boat carrying devotees from Ludhiana capsized in the Yamuna River.

1. Theater Command Structure Revealed: India’s ongoing military reform proposes three new Theater Commands:
– Western Theater Command (led by an Indian Air Force officer)
– Northern Theater Command (led by an Indian Army officer)
– Maritime Theater Command (led by an Indian Navy officer)
The plan also includes the creation of a “Vice Chief of Defence Staff” to support coordination among the CDS, service chiefs, and theater commanders.

2. Apaches in ‘Exercise Brahmastra’: Exercise Brahmastra is a major military drill conducted by the Indian Army to test combat readiness, coordination, and modern warfare strategies.

The AH-64E Apache is one of the most advanced attack helicopters in the world, used by India. The Indian Army showcased the combat capabilities of its Boeing Apache attack helicopters during ‘Exercise Brahmastra.’ The Apaches carried out precision strikes using AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, rockets, and onboard guns to successfully engage targets in a simulated battlefield.

3. Hyderabad-based Apollo Micro Systems successfully completed blast trials of its indigenously developed limpet mine for the Indian Navy.

4. Drone-maker Bonero held the groundbreaking ceremony for its new ₹300 crore drone manufacturing facility in Odisha.

5. In a remarkable milestone for the Indian Army, Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit has been cleared for promotion to the rank of Brigadier, becoming only the second officer in the force’s history to achieve this elevation without having commanded a unit at the colonel level. The first such instance was the legendary Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, one of India’s greatest military leaders.

This exceptional decision comes after a prolonged 17-year ordeal that saw Colonel Purohit, an officer from the Military Intelligence Corps, navigate serious legal challenges, including his implication in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. He was acquitted by a special court in July 2025 due to insufficient evidence.

6. The Indian Air Force released a Request for Information (RFI) for the procurement of advanced 4D long-range surveillance radars with a detection range of up to 450 km.

1. Nepali feature film Elephants in the Fog has made history by becoming the first Nepali film to be selected in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. The film follows a family living in a settlement affected by elephant attacks, focusing on the mother-daughter relationship. Written and directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, the film will compete at the 79th edition of the festival, scheduled to be held in France from 12th to 23rd May.

2. Registrations for the 19th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival – MIFF for Documentary, Short Fiction and Animation Films are open till Sunday. MIFF 2026 will be held from 15th to 21st June 2026 at the NFDC Complex in Mumbai.

3. DACOIT: A Love Story released yesterday in theaters. Directed by Shaneil Deo and led by Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, the Telugu-Hindi bilingual is, at its heart, an emotional love story with an Indian ethos.
