How owners of Goa nightclubs fled to Thailand in hours after deadly fire

Thailand

The dramatic escape of Goa nightclub owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra has given rise to serious questions on how two prime accused managed to leave the country in such quick time. Officials reported that the moment a fire broke out at their popular beachside nightclub, the brothers allegedly did not waste any time in planning their getaway. Even as emergency teams were rushing to the spot, the duo had already switched off their phones and begun moving toward the airport, reportedly determined to avoid immediate questioning.

Using Loopholes in Exit Checks

According to investigators, the brothers used the prevailing situation to their advantage since no LOC had been issued at that time. If no LOC has been issued, no airport may legally prevent an Indian citizen from departing. This, in fact, was the window of opportunity for the Luthra brothers, who reportedly booked last-minute flight tickets and evaded routine scrutiny by travelling with minimal luggage. According to sources, they may also have used fast-track immigration counters where checks are less detailed and faster.

Booked flight in no time, and flight departure was smooth.

Within hours of the fire, the Luthras are believed to have booked seats on an international flight from Goa airport to Bangkok in Thailand. The rush booking did not raise suspicion because many travellers in Goa buy urgent tickets, particularly during peak tourist season. The brothers have reportedly been recorded by CCTV cameras when they reached the terminal separately and maintained a low profile, not to arouse suspicion. Once they cleared immigration — which took only minutes — they boarded the flight without interruption and left India before police could initiate any preventive action.

Police React After Their Exit

Authorities confirmed the owners of the nightclub were missing and possibly fleeing after the aircraft had crossed Indian airspace. Goa Police then issued an LOC and informed central agencies, but it was too late. A formal request has now been sent to Thai authorities seeking cooperation, and discussions regarding extradition have begun. According to officials, the brothers would eventually have to face questioning with the fire investigation taking its course.

Families of victims demand action

Families of those affected by the fire have expressed outrage, calling the escape “a failure of the system.” They say business owners should have been prevented from traveling outside of the country until examination into the cause of the fire was completed. Many demand a tighter mechanism to prevent suspects from fleeing in advance of investigations.
