1. The festival of lights, Diwali is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. On this occasion, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their greetings to the countrymen.

2. After the end of the deadline for withdrawal of nominations for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, a total of 1,314 candidates remain in the fray for 121 assembly constituencies.

3. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced a hike in sugercane rates by 15 rupees per quintal. The rate for early sugarcane varieties has been increased from 400 rupees to 415 rupees per quintal.

4. In Ladakh, crucial talks between the Centre and Ladakh representatives, which were called off nearly three weeks ago, are set to resume on Wednesday.

7. Jharkhand’s ruling JMM on Monday announced that it would not contest the assembly elections in neighbouring Bihar, claiming that the decision was taken in the wake of a “political conspiracy” by its allies RJD and Congress, which deprived it of seats as part of the Mahagathbandhan.

8. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange colour warning for heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu for the next four days. The IMD also estimated very heavy rainfall conditions over Puducherry and Karaikal for the next 2 days. According to the IMD, isolated places over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to experience heavy rainfall .

1. PM Modi celebrated Diwali aboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, marking a special occasion with the Indian Navy personnel off the coasts of Goa and Karwar.

2. PM Modi said that India’s defence production has tripled in the past decade, reaching 1.5 lakh crore rupees, with over 40 indigenously built warships and submarines delivered since 2014. He said, India now produces most of its defence equipment domestically, with a new warship or submarine added to the Navy every 40 days on average.

3. The Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, emphasised India’s focus on enhancing firepower through existing and future fighter jets, including the Su-30MKI, the indigenous Tejas, and the procurement of Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA).

4. India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is advancing work on the ASTRA MK-2 beyond-visual-range (BVR) air-to-air missile, aiming to extend its effective strike distance to over 200 kilometres.

5. India’s defence modernisation drive is poised for a significant leap forward, with the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, slated to meet on 23 November 2025.The council will deliberate on several major indigenous weapon system procurements for the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

6. India is preparing to introduce a new generation of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles capable of striking targets up to 800 kilometres away within the next two to three years.

7. Tension is rising in Gaza as Israel and Palestine traded blame over ceasefire violations. The dispute escalated after Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office said Rafah will remain closed until further notice, contradicting a Palestinian Embassy statement that the crossing would reopen tomorrow for injured Gazans and Egyptian passport holders.

8. The Ministry of (MoD) has halted progress on the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) “Statement of Case” for procuring 114 medium multi-role fighter aircraft, describing the proposal as “incomplete”. The move signals New Delhi’s intent to pursue a deal that maximises domestic participation and aligns firmly with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
