1. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, TRAI has extended the last date to receive Comments and Counter-Comments on Consultation Paper on ‘Licensing Framework and Regulatory Mechanism for Submarine Cable Landing in India’.

2. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said, the Construction of the 109 km green field Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway will reduce the travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera by one hour.

3. ROZGAR MELA : PM Modi will distribute nearly 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits in Government departments and organisations through video conferencing on Friday.

The new recruits and selected candidates from across the country will join various positions and posts under the Government of India like Junior Engineers, Loco pilots, Technicians, Inspector, Sub Inspectors, Constable, stenographers, Junior Accountant, Grameen Dak Sevak, Income Tax Inspector, Teacher, Nurse, Doctor, Social security Officer and among others.

4. All vehicles owned by central and state governments that are older than 15 years will be deregistered and scrapped under new rules applicable from April 1, 2023, according to a notification by the Transport Ministry.

5. PM Modi lays foundation stone and dedicates various developmental projects several development projects related to water security, farmers’ welfare and road connectivity worth about 50,000 crore rupees in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

6. PM also inaugurates Narayanpur Left Bank Canal – Extension Renovation and Modernisation Project (NLBC – ERM) in Karnataka. The project, with canal carrying capacity of 10,000 cusecs, can irrigate 4.5 lac hectares of command area.

7. PM Modi takes a ride on the newly inaugurated Mumbai Metro Rail Lines 2A & 7 and interacts with people.

8. Telangana government said that Microsoft will be investing ₹16,000 crore for setting up three more data centres in Hyderabad.

CRIME REPORT

1. J&K administration revoked the ban it imposed on the issuance of arms licences. The ban was imposed in 2018 after a gun licence racket by the Rajasthan Police’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) unveiled the name of public officials, including some IAS officers. An order permitted the district magistrates (DMs) to issue arms licences and adhere to additional conditions.

2. BSF arrested two persons after they shot down a drone at the Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar and seized around 6.150 kg of heroin. “Pakistan is repeatedly trying to send heroin to…Indian border through drones.

3. Two workers were killed in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Thaiyilpatti in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district.

4. Delhi court on Thursday sent Harish Chandra, the man accused of molesting and dragging the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal, to 14-day judicial custody.

1. The Goverment has condemned the BBC documentary on PM Modi terming it a propaganda piece and an effort to push the discredited narrative. The External Affairs Ministry said, the bias, lack of objectivity and continuing colonial mindset are blatantly visible.

2. Multiplex operator PVR said its merger with INOX will be completed within FY23. The merger received the nod of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai Bench through a verbal order on January 12 and the written order is expected by mid-February

3. Instagram’s new ‘Quiet Mode’ will help users take a break from the app. It turns off notifications, changes profile’s activity status to ‘In quiet mode’ and sends an auto-reply on direct messages about the mode.

1. Army considering 244 women officers for 108 command role posts.

A total of 244 women officers are being considered for promotion against 108 vacancies, in various arms and services of the Indian Army, by a selection board.

Women Officers Special No. 3 Selection Board will assess these officers for promotion from “the rank of Lt Col to Col”, from January 9-22 to bring them at par with their male counterparts.

Permanent commission to women officers in junior batches has also commenced, in which they are considered for PC in their 10th year of service.

2. Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt, while addressing NCC Cadets of Republic Day Camp 2023 at Delhi Cantt in New Delhi said that,

NCC is a shining example of “Unity in Diversity”, and since its formation, it has played a stellar role in grooming the youth of the country.

3. Fifth Scorpene-class Submarine INS VAGIR to be commissioned on Jan 23.The submarine is a part of the Project-75 which involves the Scorpene or the Kalvari-class diesel-electric attack submarines by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.

The fifth of the Scorpene-class submarines — Vagir — would be commissioned on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and ahead of the Republic Day festivities.

Indian Army under the aegis of HQ Army Training Command (ARTRAC) organised the second edition of Hackathon aptly named “SAINYA RANAKSHETRAM 2.0” from October 2022 to January 2023 with an aim to seek solutions to operational cyber challenges and to jump start and telescope the development time for innovative solutions in the field of Cyber Security.
