1. Arunachal Pradesh Mountaineer Kabak Yano has successfully summitted Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak of Africa on Monday. Yano is on a seven-summit mountaineering expedition, a mission to scale the highest peaks on all seven continents. Towering at 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the tallest peak on the African continent.

2. India achieved a historic milestone by performing over 18,900 organ transplants in 2024. This is the highest number recorded in a single year. The figure marks rise from fewer than 5,000 transplants in 2013. India is now third globally in total organ transplants, after the United States and China.

3. India and Russia reaffirmed their strategic partnership and shared commitment to deepen industrial and economic cooperation. The two sides welcomed enhanced engagement in aluminium, fertilisers, and railway transport, alongside capacity building and technology transfer in mining sector equipment, exploration, and industrial and domestic waste management.

4. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval holds a meeting with senior Russian officials in Moscow to discuss bilateral defence and security cooperation.

5. The Ministry of Ayush in collaboration with the World Health Organization hosted the inaugural session of the WHO -International Regulatory Cooperation for Herbal Medicines Workshop in Ghaziabad. The inaugural session of the workshop focused on Safety and Regulation of Herbal Medicines and Efficacy and the Intended Use of Herbal Medicines.

6. PM Modi is scheduled to visit Japan on August 30 for a bilateral summit hosted by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. He will then travel to Tianjin, China, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit hosted by President Xi Jinping on August 31 and September 1. This will be his first visit to China since the deadly Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops in June 2020.

1. Taiwan says it has detected heightened Chinese military activity near its territorial waters. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence posted on social media platform X that 16 Chinese military aircraft, six naval vessels, and a government ship are operating around Taiwan.

2. Sri Lanka’s former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) at his residence in Colombo.

3. Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir will visit the United States to attend the CENTCOM change in command later this week, his second trip to Washington in less than two months.
