1. Today NAG PANCHAMI festival is Celebrated, it is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated on the fifth day (Panchami) of the bright half of the lunar month of Shravana. Snakes are considered divine and symbolic of fertility, strength, and protection.

The festival honors Shesha Naga, the serpent of Lord Vishnu, and Vasuki, the snake used during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan).

2. The Lok Sabha has taken up special discussion on India’s strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Initiating the discussion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the government has given a strong message to Pakistan that terrorism and talks cannot go together.

3. Earth Sciences Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched 14 major products and initiatives developed by various institutes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. These include rainfall monitoring and crop-weather calendars, advanced weather forecasting systems, high-resolution rainfall datasets, air quality forecasting systems and marine biodiversity.

4. In Jammu and Kashmir, the first direct unlocking system has been installed at Dinanagar railway station in Northern Railway’s Jammu division, a step that is expected to improve efficiency and safety in railway operations. The direct unlocking system ensures the safe passage of trains, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

5. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is set to introduce new curriculum modules highlighting Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s space mission and India’s Operation Sindoor, a decisive military action. These modules aim to educate students about India’s growing strength in defence, diplomacy, space exploration, and sustainability.

6. The government is providing hot and nutritious meals to about 11 crore children across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) Scheme. In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary said the scheme is one of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented in partnership with the States and UTs to all children studying in Bal Vatika and classes 1 to 8 of government and government-aided schools.

7. Telangana CM Revanth Reddyalong with ministers, Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs will camp in Delhi for three days, from August 5 to 7, to hold protests to press the demand for immediate Central approval for the 42 per cent reservations for the Backward Classes (BC) communities.

8. Ministry of Defence will set up a testing facility in Mechanical and Material domain in Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor. The Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding – MoU for setting up the facility with Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited in the presence of Secretary (Defence Production), Sanjeev Kumar in New Delhi.

9. In a move to enhance grievance redressal and promote citizen-friendly governance, Hyderabad District Collector Harichandana Dasari has launched a WhatsApp grievance facility at 74166 87878.

Citizens can now lodge complaints from home without visiting the weekly Prajavani programme or using the online portal.

10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat, East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh. In Gujarat water logging persists in many rain affected districts of North and central Gujarat including Ahmedabad. Relief and rescue work is underway in rain affected districts. The state has received 61 percent of the average rainfall so far.

1. The Supreme Court refused to stop the Election Commission from publishing the draft electoral rolls for Bihar on August 1 as per the schedule notified for the Special Intensive Revision.

2. The Supreme Court stayed the Calcutta High Court’s interim order that had halted the implementation of a revised list of Other Backwards Classes (OBCs) notified by the West Bengal government.

3. The security forces successfully killed four wanted Naxal leaders during a joint operation conducted in Bijapur district on July 26.The four deceased, all found in uniform and carrying reward amounts totalling ₹17 lakh.

4. Odisha Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra was allegedly duped of Rs 25 lakh in a land fraud case.

1. In Punjab, nine people died and 19 were rescued in two separate incidents in the Ludhiana and Jalandhar districts. Six persons, including two children and three women, died after an overloaded vehicle carrying 29 pilgrims from Manakwal village fell into the Sirhind Canal in Ludhiana. Four persons are missing, and 19 were rescued.

2. least two people lost their lives and 17 people were injured in a stampede-like situation after an electric wire fell on a tin shed in Ausaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki.

OPERATION MAHADEV @ PAHALGAM TERRORIST KILLED : Suleman, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, was identified as the mastermind of the April 22 terror attack. He was gunned down yesterday (28-Jul-2025).

Operation Mahadev, neutralised two other terrorists: Abu Hamza and Yasir. Yasir, too, is believed to be among the Pahalgam killers. Security forces from the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police were part of yesterday’s joint operation. Suleman served in the Pakistan Army and was also known as Hashim Moosa.

“Mahadev” refers to Lord Shiva, symbolizing destruction of evil.

2. The Border Security Force (BSF) is being equipped with more than 5,000 body-worn cameras and biometric capturing devices along the India-Bangladesh border as part of enhanced security measures. These body cameras, distributed in two batches, are night-vision enabled and can record 12 to 14 hours of footage.

3. India is undergoing an accelerated and ambitious military modernisation program with over ₹3 lakh crore being allocated to upgrade its defence capabilities by 2025.This includes large-scale procurement projects as well as a focus on indigenous development under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

4. The 14th edition of the India-Singapore joint military exercise, named Exercise Bold Kurukshetra 2025, commenced on July 27, 2025, and will continue until August 4, 2025, at Jodhpur in Rajasthan. The exercise involves the participation of the 42 Singapore Armoured Regiment of the 4 Singapore Armoured Brigade and the Indian Army’s Mechanised Infantry Regiment.

5. The Indian Navy is poised to significantly enhance its undersea warfare capabilities with the potential induction of nine advanced submarines under the ambitious Project 75(India) or P75(I), pending approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).This project, estimated to cost between ₹90,000 and ₹1,00,000 Crores.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) showcased the missile systems deployed during Operation Sindoor at a recent workshop held on Saturday at the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad.This operation was India’s strategic response to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.

7. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is setting up an advanced Infrared (IR) Detector Technology Center in the Lucknow node of Uttar Pradesh’s Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC).This center, led by DRDO’s Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE) from Dehradun, will focus on fabrication and manufacturing of high-technology semiconductor infrared detectors and night vision systems.

8. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), one of India’s most prestigious paramilitary forces, celebrates its 87th Foundation Day on July 27, 2025. Since its inception in 1939, the CRPF has played a pivotal role in maintaining internal security and safeguarding India from external and internal threats. With its motto “Service and Loyalty”, the CRPF continues to stand as a symbol of dedication, bravery, and resilience.

9. The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has launched a new scheme titled ‘Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana’ to provide comprehensive legal aid to defence personnel and their families. The announcement came during the North Zone Regional Conference held in Srinagar, on the theme “Reaffirming the Constitutional Vision of Justice for Defence Personnel and Tribals.”
