1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (26 July 2025) graced the Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives as the guest of honour. PM Modi was warmly welcomed at the iconic Republic Square in this Maldivian capital. He is on a two-day visit to attend the Independence Day celebrations of the Indian Ocean archipelago.

2. On July 25, 2025, India and the Maldives celebrated the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations with the release of commemorative stamps. The stamps, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, beautifully depict the shared maritime heritage between the two nations.

3. India has handed over 72 heavy vehicles to the Maldivian Defense Ministry, reduced the Maldives’ annual debt repayment burden by 40%, and extended a $565 million line of credit to support its development.

4. During the recent UK visit by PM Modi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a tree sapling to King Charles III at Sandringham Estate, Norfolk. The gesture was part of India’s environmental initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, aimed at promoting tree plantation in honour of mothers. This symbolic act also reflected shared environmental values and growing Indo-UK cooperation.

5. India has officially resumed the issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals after a five-year pause, marking a significant diplomatic and people-to-people development. This step reflects a cautious yet positive recalibration in India-China bilateral ties, especially in the realm of tourism, soft diplomacy, and regional engagement.

6. China has initiated the construction of the world’s largest hydropower dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River in the Tibet Autonomous Region, raising environmental and geopolitical concerns, particularly in India and Bangladesh, which lie downstream. The river originates in Tibet and flows into Arunachal Pradesh and Assam in India as the Siang and Brahmaputra, eventually entering Bangladesh as the Jamuna.

7. PM Modi has once again emerged as the world’s most trusted and highest-rated leader, reaffirming his unmatched global stature. According to the Morning Consult Global Leader Approval Tracker (July 2025 edition), PM Modi enjoys a staggering 75% approval rating, outpacing all other global heads of state.

1. In a major foreign policy move, France has announced it will officially recognise the State of Palestine in September 2025. This will make it the first G7 country to do so. The declaration, made by President Emmanuel Macron.
