1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds delegation-level talks with Brazilian President Lula da Silva in Bras├нlia; Focus on strategic partnership in areas of mutual interest including trade and defence.

2. India and Brazil to sign four MoUs to foster cooperation in areas of counter-terrorism, sharing of confidential information, renewable energy and Agriculture research.

3. From Brazil, the Prime Minister will travel to Namibia’s capital Windhoek today, on the final leg of his five-nation tour.

4. The joint declaration of the 17th Brics Summit in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro.
Leaders of the Brics nations welcomed Indonesia as a member of the group, while 10 nations, including Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Malaysia, Thailand, Cuba, Vietnam, Uganda, and Uzbekistan, as partner countries.

5. India abstained from voting on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution on the situation in Afghanistan and noted that a тАЬbusiness as usualтАЭ approach without new and targeted initiatives is unlikely to deliver the outcomes the international community envisions for the Afghan people.

6. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a pilot nomination-based golden visa programme for residents of India and Bangladesh. This new policy offers lifetime residency in the UAE on payment of a fee of AED 100,000 (around Rs 23.3 lakh). Unlike the previous golden visa scheme, it does not require investment in property or business.

1. US President Donald Trump has said that any extensions will not be offered to a new 1st August deadline for nations to begin paying reciprocal tariffs.

2. The world’s first-ever malaria treatment suitable for babies and very young children has been approved for use by Switzerland. Drug manufacturer Novartis has received approval from Swiss authorities for its new malaria drug named Coartem.

3. In Kenya, at least ten people were killed and 29 injured in Kenya as security forces clashed with protesters.

4. Vietnam and China have agreed to boost trade and investment ties between the two countries during a meeting of the Prime Ministers of both countries on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Brazil. The move came days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new trade deal with Vietnam that would slap a 20% tariff on all Vietnamese exports to the United States but also put a 40% levy on trans shipments through Vietnam from third countries.

5. In the United States, the death toll from a devastating flood in Central Texas rose past 100. Rescue operations continue.
