RCB Charged in FIR Following Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede that Injured Fans

RCB celebration tragedy

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after a stampede-like situation outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The chaos erupted prior to an IPL 2025 match as massive crowds rushed in to get into the stadium. The crowd surge is said to have injured several fans in the process of rushing in.

Lapse in Crowd Control and Inefficient Management

The report submitted noted alleged negligence in crowd handling and lack of coordination among event organizers, local officials, and the franchise. The witnesses alleged late gate opening and bottlenecking. The police deployment was also inadequate to manage the crowd, they stated. That incompetence was reported to have triggered panic among waiting spectators, and consequently, the stampede.

Fans went Fury on Social Media

Footage and images from the scene quickly went viral on social media, with fans packed against walls and some even toppling over with the power. Many users criticized RCB and stadium officials as being badly organized and understaffed to deal with the crowds. Hashtags like #RCBStampede and #ChinnaswamyChaos trended on social media, with fans demanding answers.

Police Launch Investigation, RCB Release Statement

The Bengaluru Police, after registering the FIR, launched an investigation to determine the cause and hold someone responsible. The officials are investigating whether safety protocols were violated and if necessary arrangements were made with regard to the high-profile nature of the event.

RCB put out a brief statement deploring the incident and giving wholehearted support to the police. The franchise stated, “We are committed to the safety of our fans and will work closely with the authorities to ensure this does not happen again.”

Past Incidents Raise Bigger Questions

This is the second time crowd violence has been seen at high-profile cricket matches in India, and there are broader issues of infrastructure and planning adequacy at high-capacity sporting events. Authorities believe a review of entry procedures, ticketing, and coordination with civic bodies to prevent such incidents in the future.

Injured Fans Recovering

11 persons were dead. The injured individuals were treated with first aid at the stadium and hospitals in the locality. The local government agreed to foot the bill for medical expenses and take additional measures to improve crowd safety for future matches.
