Actor Jay Thakkar is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. Known for his versatile roles in popular web series like Gullak 4, Ek Dujey Ke Vaaste 2, Laakhon Mein Ek, UP 65, and films such as Ram Setu and Dream Girl, Jay is ready to bring his unique Banarasi charm to the big screen.
In Bhool Chuk Maaf, Jay plays a character who provides much-needed comic relief amidst the chaos of the story. “Imagine a rollercoaster of emotions, but just when things get too serious—BAM! I pop in with my quirky Banarasi charm, bringing comic relief in the most unexpected ways. My character is like that one mischievous friend at a wedding who keeps things entertaining while all the drama unfolds,” he explains. “I interact closely with Rajkummar Rao sir, Seema Pahwa ma’am, and Raghubir Yadav sir, adding a hearty dose of humor and romance. Oh, and there’s also a pyaar bhari twist in my character—but with who, what, when? That’s for you to find out! Watch the film, and I promise this atrangi jodi will have you grinning ear to ear!”
When it comes to his connection with the character, Jay says, “If there’s a degree in playing North Indian characters, I think I might just have an honorary doctorate by now! From Mohit Maharaj Bro in UP65 (JioCinema) to Bakri in Laakhon Mein Ek (Amazon Prime Video) to Bunty Miyaan in Ek Dujey Ke Vaaste 2 (Sony TV), I’ve practically lived and breathed these accents and dialects for years. This Banarasi role felt like coming home—just with a pinch of extra spice and a whole lot of humor.”
In terms of preparation, Jay shares, “We went all out—dialect training, script readings, and deep dives into Banarasi tashan. But the real magic? That happened thanks to our mast maula director Karan Sharma sir, who constantly encouraged us to throw in local slang, quirky one-liners, and spontaneous humor. It wasn’t just acting; it was pure fun on set!”
Reflecting on his experience working with Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, Jay fondly remembers his history with Rajkummar. “Rajkummar Rao and I go way back—like, back when I was an 8-year-old Child Actor and he played my father in a Royal Stag Barrel’s Suspense Thriller Short Film called *Uss Din*. Fast forward 15 years, and here we are again, but this time, I’m not his kid—I’m one of his closest acquaintances in the film (still can’t reveal how, though… suspense, suspense!).”
He continues, “Working with Rajkummar sir is like playing cricket with a seasoned batsman—he makes every scene smooth, easy, and full of surprises. He’s super secure as an actor, always lifting up his co-stars rather than hogging the limelight. And that’s rare!”
As for Wamiqa, Jay says, “She’s like a cool breeze on a hot Banarasi day—calm, confident, and full of fresh energy. Her presence of mind during scenes is the chef’s kiss.”
Set in the heart of Banaras, Bhool Chuk Maaf is a laugh riot where Rajkummar Rao’s character is caught in a never-ending time loop. “Think *Groundhog Day* meets Banarasi *tadka*!” Jay says excitedly. The frustration, chaos, and hilarity build up to a wildly entertaining story, and Jay’s character is at the center of the madness. “My character is right in the middle of all this hungama! The teaser is already turning heads, and trust me, once you meet my chatpata Banarasi character, you won’t forget him anytime soon,” he teases.
