1. India and Five Central Asian countries pledge support for peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan during India-Central Asia Dialogue. under the chairmanship of the External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan took part in the meeting.
2. The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 43 Indian fishermen and seized six trawlers for allegedly poaching in the country’s territorial waters.

1. Australia and Britain signed a free trade agreement on 17 Dec that will eliminate almost all taxes on exports between the countries. The FTA was signed at a virtual ceremony by Australian Trade Minister Dan Tehan in Adelaide and Britain’s Secretary of State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan in London.
2. IMF has revised its growth projection for Bangladesh to 6.6% for FY 2022. The IMF team led by Rahul Anand which visited Dhaka between Dec 5-19 commended the quick and decisive action by the government of Bangladesh that led to a much faster recovery than its regional peers. It predicted that growth is likely to rise to 7.1% in FY 2023.
3. In the Philippines, at least 108 people were reportedly killed as Super Typhoon Rai, with a wind speed of about 195km/hour hit the country’s south-eastern islands. Rescue and relief efforts are on in the typhoon-hit areas.
4. In Malaysia, over 22,000 people were evacuated as the country faces some of its worst floodings in years. Heavy downpours since Thursday have caused rivers to overflow, submerging many urban areas and cutting off major roads, stranding thousands of motorists. Almost 22,000 flood victims in eight states and territories were recorded on an official government website, with over 10,000 of them in the central state of Pahang.
5. Tear gas and stun grenades were fired in Sudan’s Khartoum on Sunday to disperse protesters who staged anti-coup demonstrations. Roads, bridges were blocked by security forces and military buildings were also barricaded. Notably, pro-democracy protests were held across Sudan to mark third anniversary of protests that led to an uprising and removal of ex-leader Omar al-Bashir from power in 2019.
6. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will no longer censor films released in theatres, Emirati Media Regulatory Authority announced on Sunday. “The movies will be screened in cinemas according to their international version,” it said. Instead of cutting sensitive scenes that could offend traditional Islamic sensibilities, the government will introduce a new 21-plus age category for viewers.
7. Thailand has sent over 600 refugees back to Myanmar even as clashes in its neighbouring country continue, a Thai official confirmed. Refugees, who had taken shelter at a local Thai school, were reportedly made to board trucks to be sent across the border. Over 2,500 refugees had crossed over to Thailand following ongoing fights between ethnic rebels and Myanmar Army.
8. Several international banks operating in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are set to adopt a Monday-Friday work week from January 2022.
9. Elon Musk’s SpaceX launched 52 Starlink internet satellites in low Earth orbit from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, US on 18 Dec.
