1. US President Donald Trump has signed a series of executive actions, revoking 78 of Joe Biden’s policies, hours after returning to the White House.
2. US President Trump ends automatic citizenship of children born in the country to non-citizen parents; Withdraws United States from World Health Organization and Paris Climate Agreement.
3. Florida Senator Marco Rubio has been sworn in as the next U.S. Secretary of State. The Senate confirmed his appointment, making him the first member of Trump’s cabinet to receive Congressional approval.
4. At least 66 people killed and 51 others injured in a fire at a hotel in northwestern Türkiye. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the blaze broke out in the restaurant of the 12-story Grand Kartal Hotel in the mountain-top resort of Kartalkaya.
5. Singapore has introduced stricter regulations on-screen use for children as part of the “Grow Well SG” health initiative. Starting February 1, preschools will ban screen use for children under 18 months and limit it to educational purposes for those aged 18 months to six years.
6. On the occasion of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP), 2025, Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli announced the Sagarmatha Sambaad (Dialogue) scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on 16-18 May 2025.
7. Seven illegal miners were killed and one seriously injured during a gun battle with troops in western Ghana. The military said the gun battle took place in Obuasi, a town in the western African country’s Ashanti Region.
8. The United Arab Emirates has initiated the largest phase of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, dispatching 20 trucks carrying over 200 tonnes of essential aid to Gaza. The operation, launched under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, coincides with a humanitarian truce that enables intensified relief efforts in the region.
9. China Builds World’s Longest Tunnel: China unveiled the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, enhancing BRI connectivity and infrastructure in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
