South Central Railway (SCR) has decided to increase the number of coaches of the Vande Bharat train – starting from Secunderabad in the afternoon to reach Visakhapatnam by late night – to 20 coaches from the current 16 coaches in view of the heavy demand and the current ‘Sankranti-Pongal’ festival season from Saturday (January 11, 2025).

1. The Supreme Court on Friday directed the district magistrate to maintain status quo on reviving or allowing prayers at a ‘private’ well located near the entrance of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid mosque in Sambhal.
2. The central Bureau of Investigation, CBI has filed a fresh FIR against the son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Congress MP Karti Chidambaram in an alleged corruption case. The case pertains to an alleged suspicious payment made by alcoholic beverage company Diageo Scotland and Sequoia Capital to Advantage Strategic Consulting Private Limited, a company controlled by Karti Chidambaram and one of his close aides.

1. On January 10, 2025, the Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and French Navy participated in a significant Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPE) off the western coast of India. This exercise involved complex maritime drills that highlighted the high degree of interoperability among the participating forces.
The exercise was part of a broader collaboration that included the French Carrier Strike Group (CSG), led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. The CSG had recently arrived in India as part of Mission CLEMENCEAU 25, which aims to enhance maritime cooperation between India and France.
2. The 18th edition of the Indo-Nepal Joint Military Exercise Surya Kiran is currently underway in Saljhandi, Nepal, running from December 31, 2024, to January 13, 2025. This annual exercise is a testament to the strong military cooperation between India and Nepal.
3. The Indian Army’s 3 Corps General Officer Commanding, Lt Gen Abhijeet S Pendharkar, and Assam Rifles (North) Inspector General Maj Gen Manish Kumar, along with other senior officers of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles paid a courtesy visit to Arunachal University of Studies (AUS).

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the manufacturer of the Dhruv helicopters, is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the crash.

7. Mumbai-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited handed over the sixth Scorpene submarine, Vaghsheer, of Project P-75 to the Indian Navy. According to an official statement, the advanced technology used in the Scorpene ensures superior stealth features and the capability to launch precise attacks using guided weapons. Vaghsheer can launch attacks with both torpedoes and tube-launched anti-ship missiles, whether submerged or on the surface. The submarine is capable of performing a variety of missions, including Anti-Surface Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Intelligence Gathering, and Area Surveillance.
