1. India and Nigeria discuss and identify specific areas of cooperation in fight against terrorism. The Second Strategic and Counter-Terrorism Dialogue between India and Nigeria concluded in New Delhi. During the two day long Dialogue, National Security Adviser Ajit Dova and his Nigerian counterpart Nuhu Ribadu held in-depth discussions.

2. North Korea fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea this morning. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said they detected the launches at about 7:30 a.m. from the Sariwon area in the western province of North Hwanghae.

1. Voting underway in the United States to elect next President. The electorates will decide who would be the 47th President of the United States – the world’s largest economy.

Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate and US Vice President, is in the presidential race against former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Kamala Harris is the first Black woman and first person of South Asian descent to be contesting US presidential polls. The 60-year-old candidate has South Asian roots which trace back to her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, who came from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu.

It is expected that a fairly accurate picture of the winner of the election will emerge by 10 am on Wednesday IST, based on exit polls.

2. Japan Launches World’s First Wooden 🛰Satellite, LignoSat, to Test Space-Grade Wood. It is to prove that wood is a space-grade material. The satellite LignoSat is scheduled to orbit the Earth for six months.

3. Gulfood Manufacturing and GulfHost 2024, the world’s largest 🍲food and beverage industry event, opened its doors at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with India’s participation reaching a new high.

4. Former Vice President of China Development Bank, Zhou Qingyu, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for bribery crimes.

5. In Nepal, ponds and river banks in Terai and Kathmandu Valley are being cleaned and specially decorated for the Chhath festival. In Kathmandu Valley, Kamalpokhari and Gaurighat at River Bagmati are preferred places to perform chhath puja.

6. Dr. Jacqueline d’Arros Hughes, who has been leading the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), will soon step into a new role as the Secretary General of the World Agriculture Forum (WAF) in November 2024.
