1. PM Modi on Tuesday said that security cannot be an afterthought in an interconnected world while stressing on the need to establish a global framework for digital technology and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). The Prime Minister was speaking after inaugurating the International Telecommunication Union – World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA) 2024 and India Mobile Congress at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital.

2. The elections for the Assembly elections in Jharkhand will be held in two phases on 13 November and 20 November (same as Maharashtra). The results for the elections will be announced on November 23.

3. Ahead of Vice President Shree Jagdeep Dhankar’s visit to Meghalaya on October 16 and 17, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) issued directives for the general public. The directive has been issued in order to ensure safe and smooth travel of the dignitary and convenience of the general public.

4. Meghalaya government is seeking Rs 600 crore financial support from the Centre for strengthening and improving the overall functioning of the social welfare department.

11. The AICC has appointed ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Dansari Anasuya Seethakka from Telangana as senior observers for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka for Jharkhand. The appointments were made by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday.

12. United Naga Council Rejects Formation of Unmandated ‘United Tribal Council Manipur’. According to the UNC, any statements or narratives issued by these newly formed “unmandated organisation/union/council do not carry the voice and aspiration of the people.”

13. A group of elected members of Manipur Assembly, representing Kuki-Zo-Hmar, Meitei and Naga communities, met in New Delhi today to discuss the current scenario in the state. The Home Ministry said in a statement that the meeting unanimously resolved to appeal to the people of the State belonging to all communities to shun the path of violence.

14. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary inaugurated a new National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) extension centre at the Andhra Medical Tech Zone (AMTZ) campus in Visakhapatnam.

the extension centre will provide training in Computer Software Applications (CSA) under the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS), starting from the 2024-25 academic session.

1. The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Centre and Election Commission of India on a plea seeking direction that promise of freebies, made by political parties during the run-up to elections, be declared as bribes.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud issued notice to the Centre and poll panel and also tagged the petition along with pending cases.

2. Five flights, including one bound for the United States, received bomb-threat messages through a social media handle on Tuesday, prompting security agencies to undertake specific counter-terrorist drills at various airports.

In just two days, 10 flights have been grounded due to hoax bomb threats, including major Indian airlines like Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air. Tuesday’s incidents included Air India’s Delhi-Chicago flight (AI127), IndiGo’s Dammam-Lucknow flight, SpiceJet’s Darbhanga-Mumbai flight and an Akasa Air flight from Bagdogra to Bengaluru.

3. Former MP from Maharashtra, Navneet Rana (BJP) , has received a threat through a letter demanding Rs 10 crore, prompting the police to register a case and launch an investigation. The sender of the letter who identified himself as Amir, stated that he had taken a supari for Rana and threatened to sexually assault her, the complainant stated.

4. The indefinite hunger strike of junior doctors of West Bengal to press for their demands in the wake of the RG Kar Hospital incident entered the 11th day on Tuesday, as a meeting between medics and the state government failed to resolve the deadlock.

5. Authorities in J&K on Tuesday imposed prohibitory orders on the movement of people at night within a two-kilometer area from the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district.

Exercising powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Samba district magistrate Rajesh Sharma ordered that no individual or group shall move in the designated areas from 10 pm to 5 am.

1. Audiences will no longer see Kumar in the popular anti-smoking ad, known as the Nandu ad, before movies in theatres. According to Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC has decided to stop showing Akshay Kumar’s ad and has replaced it with a new one.

2. Telugu choreographer Jani Master has confessed that he has sexually assaulted his minor female colleague, the police have reportedly confirmed. On September 19, Master was arrested in Goa by the Telangana police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

3. Actor Rashmika Mandanna was on Tuesday named the national brand ambassador of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to deal with cybercrime in the country. 1. The first of two multi-purpose vessels being built by Indian conglomerate Larsen and Toubro (L&T) for the Indian Navy was launched on Monday (Oct 14) at the firm’s Kattupalli shipyard, near Chennai. The ceremony was presided over by Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. The ship has been named ‘Samarthak’ which means ‘supporter’.

2. India on Tuesday inked a mega deal with the US to procure 31 Predator long-endurance drones from American defence major General Atomics under the foreign military sales route at a cost of nearly USD 4 billion to boost Indian military’s combat prowess along the contested borders with China. The deal, signed in presence of top defence and strategic brass of India in the national capital.

In a significant boost to the country’s defense capabilities, India and the US have signed the contract for procurement of 31 MQ-9B Predator drones. This deal, aimed at enhancing the country’s operational readiness and military strength, includes tri-service procurement of the MQ-9B Sky Guardian and Sea Guardian drones.
