1. President Droupadi Murmu will be on a seven day state visit to Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi from Sunday. In the first leg of her visit, President Murmu will visit Algeria on 13th to 15th October at the invitation of President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. During the visit, President Murmu will hold bilateral talks with her counterpart.

2. PM Modi will be on a two-day visit to Vientiane in Laos from today. He will attend the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit.

3. After the success of Chandrayaan-3 in August 2023, India’s National Space Commission has approved a new lunar mission, called the Lunar Polar Exploration Mission (Lupex). This mission is a partnership between India’s space agency ISRO and Japan’s space agency JAXA, and it will focus on exploring the Moon’s resources, especially water at the lunar south pole.

4. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently praised India for successfully eliminating trachoma as a public health issue. This makes India the third country in the Southeast Asia Region to achieve this, following 🇳🇵Nepal and 🇲🇲 Myanmar.

5. 🇩🇪German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to India scheduled to be held in October. This will give an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties.

Scholz visited India in February 2023 leading a high-level business delegation comprising CEOs of major German companies.

6. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Bengaluru, Karnataka hosted a high-profile delegation from the Maldives, led by President Mohammed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohammed, on October 9.The event marks a significant step in fostering stronger ties between Karnataka and the island nation, particularly in sectors like information technology, trade, and tourism.

7. Pakistan will host the SCO summit in Islamabad on October 15-16, marking India’s first participation in an international conference in Pakistan in nine years, confirmed by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

8. The United States Department of State on Tuesday (local time) said that it has seen the recently released report by USCIRF (United States Commission on International Religious Freedom) on India, and added that they continue to monitor the religious freedom situation in every country.

1. Scientists David Baker, John Jumper, and Demis Hassabis have won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for breakthroughs in predicting and designing the structure of proteins.

2. In the USA, ahead of Hurricane Milton, more than 5 million residents on Florida’s western coast were urged to leave the densely populated coastal area. US President Joe Biden called on Florida residents to heed the warnings, adding that the Category 5 storm could turn into the worst natural disaster to hit the state in a century.

The President has also postponed planned visits to Germany and Angola later this week as Milton approaches Florida.

3. Tensions between China and Taiwan are growing, with China using a military strategy called the “Anaconda Strategy.” This strategy is designed to wear down Taiwan and limit its actions, while China increases its military presence around the island.

4. The United Nations has raised the alarm about a serious crisis caused by climate change, marked by more severe floods and droughts. On October 7, 2024, a UN report revealed that the world’s rivers had their driest conditions in over 30 years, while glaciers experienced their largest mass loss in 50 years.

5. Sri Lanka is set to pursue membership in the BRICS group during the upcoming summit in Kazan, Russia, scheduled from 22:October to 24 October 2024.

6. The IDF (Israel Defence Forces) reported that at least 50 Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon were eliminated, including 6 senior commanders from its Southern Front and Radwan Force, as a result of the “extensive air strikes” against a series of underground Hezbollah headquarters in southern Lebanon carried out on Monday.

7. Bangladesh’s interim government has established a nine-member Constitution Reform Commission, headed by Bangladeshi-American professor Ali Riaz, to review and propose reforms within 90 days.

8. Pakistan is witnessing widespread protests after the government raised taxes by 40% as part of a $7 billion bailout deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
