How makers of the new Coolie No. 1 retained the magic of the iconic song, Husn Hai Suhana

Who can forget the visual magic created by Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the iconic song, Husn Hai Suhana, from Coolie No. 1. Now, as David Dhawan, the director of the hit 1995 comedy drama, has remade the film, the song has also made it to the film’s soundtrack.

Featuring David Dhawan’s son, Varun Dhawan, and Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara Ali Khan, the movie has been co-produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh. It will release on December 25, on Amazon Prime Video.

Since the song has already been winning hearts of Bollywood music aficionados, Deepshikha, who witnessed the original song being choreographed 25 years back, was thrilled to see the recreated version of the foot-tapping number being shot in Bangkok. She says it was a fun experience for the entire unit.

She says, “To watch over the shoot of the new Husnn Hai Suhana was fun and nostalgic for both Jackky and me. Honestly, more than anything else, we wanted to get the details right. Right from the ambience and costumes to the choreography, we had so much magic to live up to. We wanted to ensure that the level of creativity scaled by the original was respected. We shot the song in a suite of a 5-star hotel. The room was redone to the last inch to look like a grand set of a mega-musical.”

The original song was rendered by singers Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Chandana Dixit, and their vocals have been retained for the recreated version as well, which has been composed by Tanishk Bagchi. Deepshikha says that both Varun and Sara worked relentlessly to get their moves right. “It was a sight to see Varun and Sara rehearsing endlessly with all their heart and energy. We had a blast shooting the song and I hope the audience grooves to it once again,” she says
