1. India and Malaysia elevate ties to comprehensive strategic partnership; Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, trade between the two countries can now be settled in domestic currencies.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a three day visit to Poland and Ukraine from today. During the visit, PM Modi will hold talks with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk and will call on President Andrzej Duda.

3. India and Japan review bilateral cooperation during Two plus Two Ministerial Dialogue in New Delhi.

4. Prime Minister Modi will undertake an official visit to Ukraine on 23rd of this month on the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

5. India made changes to its rules about exporting electricity to other countries, in August 2024. These changes were made to protect Indian companies from political risks in countries like Bangladesh. The new rules allow Indian power companies to bring the electricity back to India if there are delays in payments from the countries they supply. One of the companies affected by this is Adani Power, which runs a power plant in Godda, Jharkhand, that sends all its electricity to Bangladesh.

6. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday indicated that his government may consider India’s request to extradite controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik if it provides evidence against him.

1. Russia and Azerbaijan have signed seven documents during the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to Azerbaijan.

2. United States and South Korea kicked off a large-scale joint military exercises, aimed at strengthening their combined defence capabilities and deterring threats from North Korea. The annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercises comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

3. In Bangladesh, the Ministry of Education has decided to cancel all the remaining Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams. This decision came in response to demands from several hundreds students who stormed the secretariat.

On June 30, the HSC and equivalent exams began across the country. After eight days of exams, all exams scheduled for July 18 were postponed due to the situation created by the quota reform movement. After that, the government postponed the exams three more times. The written exams were supposed to end by September 8.

4. A complaint was filed Monday with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against 27 people, including ousted prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Obaidul Quader, Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Huq Inu for committing alleged genocide and crimes against humanity.

5. Russia has said that more than 1,20,000 civilians have been safely removed from nine border districts in the Kursk region as fighting continues, with Ukrainian forces maintaining their offensive actions.

6. 🇮🇱Israeli’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to the 🇺🇸American ‘bridging proposal’ on the release of hostages after a three-hour meeting with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Jerusalem. The USA🇺🇸 proposal enables the finalising of a hostages-for-ceasefire deal by the end of this week.

7. The rare supermoon blue moon, also known as the ‘Sturgeon Moon’ appeared on August 19, 2024. A super moon happens when the full moon is at the closest point to Earth in its orbit.
