1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Northeast India for the next two days. A heavy rainfall is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Eastern parts of the country including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha are also expected to witness heavy rainfall for the next few days.

2. In Jammu and Kashmir, the filing of nominations for the first phase of Assembly elections began yesterday after the issuance of notification by the Election Commission of India. Twenty-four Assembly constituencies will go to the polls in the first phase of elections, with voting taking place on the 18th of September.

3. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday appointed Ram Madhav and G Kishen Reddy as election-in-charge for the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

4. Bye-election for 12 seats of Rajya Sabha is scheduled to be held on the 3rd of next month. Today is the last day for filing of nomination.

5. Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, yesterday launched a pilot program to transform 60 Fair Price Shops into Jan Poshan Kendras in New Delhi.

6. Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar has launched three online platforms to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness of power sector in New Delhi. The portals are named as Portal for Online Monitoring of Projects – Thermal (PROMPT), Disaster Resilient Infrastructure for Power Sector (DRIPS) and JAL VIDYUT DPR.

7. Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh interacted with the beneficiaries of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Man-Made Fabric Apparel, fabrics, and technical textiles in New Delhi.

8. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has issued guidelines outlining the necessary steps for handling patients with suspected Monkeypox virus. AIIMS said patients with fever, rash, or a history of contact with confirmed Monkeypox cases will be flagged for immediate assessment and key symptoms will be identified. Safdarjung Hospital has been designated for managing and treating Monkey Pox patients.

9. Recently Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar inaugurated the 17th Divya Kala Mela in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, this event celebrates the talents of Divyang (disabled) individuals.

10. The Indian government introduced the Krishi-Decision Support System (Krishi-DSS), a digital platform designed to manage agricultural data across the country recently on 16 August 2024. This tool provides a wide range of information, including satellite images, weather data, and soil health.

11. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday took steps to strengthen the existing Inner Line Permit (ILP) system that makes it mandatory for a non-Arunachalee person to obtain a permit to enter the state.

12. Over 90,000 new voters have been added in Jammu and Kashmir after a special summary revision of photo electoral rolls, taking the number of electorate to 88.03 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.

13. A two seater Trainer aircraft with pilot, trainee onboard goes missing in Jharkhand after it took off from an aerodrome in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district on Tuesday. The aircraft, reported to be a Cessna 152 owned by flying school Alchemist Aviation, took off from the Sonari aerodrome in Jamshedpur around 11 am with a pilot and trainee on board.

14. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday vowed to unveil a statue of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in front of the Secretariat within 15-20 days.

16. Premium liquor likely to be cheaper by 15-25% in Karnataka. The State Excise Department, in June, had notified the Karnataka Excise (Excise Duties and Fees) (Amendment) Rules, 2024. The final notification of the same would be released within the next week, bringing down the price of premium liquor.

17. Indian Railways’ Sivok-Rangpo Rail Line Project: 23.95 km of piling work completed, tunnel mining and lining work in progress. The Sivok-Rangpo New Rail Line Project, a crucial infrastructure development aimed at enhancing rail connectivity in Sikkim, is making significant strides. Covering a total length of 44.96 kilometers.

18. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated 16 industrial projects and signed deals worth Rs 3,683 crore at Sri City, aiming to generate over 15,000 jobs. He emphasized shifting focus from ‘Ease of Doing Business’ to ‘Speed of Doing Business’ to boost industrial growth.

19. UPSC cancels advertisement related to lateral entry in bureaucracy after government’s direction. The UPSC had issued an advertisement recently to appoint 45 Joint Secretaries, Directors, and Deputy Secretaries in Central Ministries, which has been questioned by the opposition parties.

20. Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, IAS took over the charge of Director General of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India at its Headquarters in New Delhi on August 19.

1. The Supreme Court orders removal of name, photos and video clips of Kolkata rape and murder victim from social media platforms; Sets up task force to ensure safety of medical professionals.

2. The Supreme Court hears Kolkata doctor rape and murder case; Sets up National Task Force to ensure safety of medical professionals. A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, while hearing the case regarding the rape and murder of a doctor at a Kolkata hospital, directed the task force to submit its interim report within three weeks and the final report within two months.

3. The Union Health Ministry has written to the Heads of all Central Government Hospitals and Institutes to enhance security in hospitals. The Ministry has requested the installation of a sufficient number of high-resolution CCTV cameras at strategic locations, including entrances, exits, corridors, dark spots, and sensitive areas.

4. The Maharashtra government has constituted a Special Investigation Team under senior IPS officer Arati Singh to investigate the case of sexual assault of a young girl at a school in Badlapur.

5. Security agencies searched over 100 hospitals and malls in the national capital after they received bomb threat emails on Tuesday. However, it turned out to be a hoax as nothing suspicious was found.

6. Thousands of protesters on Tuesday blocked railway tracks at Badlapur station in Thane district and stormed a local school building after the alleged sexual assault of two four-year-old girls by the school sweeper in the washroom.

7. In Telangana, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (HMWS&SB) manager in Manikonda and an outsourced employee for accepting bribe of Rs 30,000.

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announce the launch of the RBI90Quiz for college students at the undergraduate level. The quiz is a nationwide competition being held as part of the events to commemorate 90 years of RBI’s functioning.

2. The government has put on hold a proposal that sought to raise the retirement age of the State Bank of India (SBI) chairperson to 65 years and that of managing directors of other public sector banks (PSBs) to 62 years.

3. The Taiwan-based Bestec Group is planning to establish a manufacturing unit near Bangalore, with an investment of ₹200 crore. This initiative, backed by the Karnataka government, is expected to generate 5,000 jobs over the next three years.

1. The Indian Army paid a solemn tribute to General Sundararajan Padmanabhan (Retired), former Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on 18th August in Chennai at the age of 83. Fondly known as “Paddy” among his colleagues and subordinates, General Padmanabhan served the nation with unwavering dedication for over 43 years, culminating in his tenure as the Chief of Army Staff from 2000 to 2002.

The final rites of General Padmanabhan were conducted with full military honours at the Besant Nagar Electric Crematorium in Chennai.

2. The Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi called on Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and reiterated Navy’s support to India’s first human space mission, Gaganayan as well as Deep Sea Mission, Samudrayan. The meeting highlighted the deepening partnership between the Indian Navy and the Indian Space Research Organization in key missions.

3. A 35-year-old Border Security Force (BSF) officer Assistant Commandant Harish Kajla has become the first Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) officer to successfully complete the Iron Man challenge, one of the toughest triathlon events across the globe.
