Om Prakash Chautala (1 January 1935 – 20 December 2024) was a man of power and service
who passed away at the age of 89 years in a private hospital in Gurgaon.
One of the family members informed that Chautala had been admitted to the hospital on Friday
at 11:35 am due to a sudden fall of health. He has been suffering from respiratory ailments for
many years and has been undergoing treatment for the same.
But after some time after his admission to the hospital, the hospital authorities confirmed the
demise of Om Prakash Chautala.
As per the sources, it has come to notice that his cremation will take place on Saturday i.e.
tomorrow at his village Chautala, in the Sirsa district of Haryana.
Political Achievements Of Om Prakash Chautala:
● He was the former Chief Minister of Haryana for five terms. Even though the tenure was
short at times, yet it is an achievement in itself.
● He was also the Chief of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), i.e. highest position of the party.
He had contributed significantly throughout his political career and enriched the lives of the
people of Haryana.
But at the same time, he was also involved in a part of the Teacher’s Recruitment Scam which
led to his imprisonment in the last 10 years of his life in Tehri Jail, Uttarakhand. He was released
from jail in 2021 and on 20 Dec 2024, he took his last breaths.
The Haryana Government has declared a 3-day State Mourning to pay respect to Chautala’s
contribution on Friday. The government also released an order regarding the same, “During this
period of state mourning, the national flag will be flown at half mast throughout the state of
Haryana on all buildings where it is flown regularly. All state government functions shall stand
cancelled and there will be no official entertainment during this period. Haryana government has
declared December 21st as public holiday in all state government offices as a mark of respect to
the departed soul. The state funeral shall be held on December 21st at 3 pm at Teja Khera
farm.”
Present Haryana CM Shri Nayab Singh Saini has also expressed his sincere condolences to
Chautala’s family in this difficult time.
