The first nine days of the World Skate Games Italy 2024 have seen athletes from around the world compete in a series of thrilling disciplines, with results that are redefining global sports rankings. Italy, as the host nation, is dominating the provisional medal tally with 54 medals, followed by Germany with 30 medals, and Colombia with 17.
The Venues and Disciplines
The World Skate Games, also known as the “world championship of world championships” for roller sports, are being held in various Italian cities, from Rome to Abruzzo, from Rimini to Novara, welcoming athletes from all over the world competing in spectacular sports.
Multiple disciplines have already seen their finals in these first days, providing excitement all across Italy. The sports contested include Inline Hockey, Rink Hockey, Artistic Skating, Speed Track, Skateboarding Slalom, Inline Slalom, Roller Freestyle Park, Scootering Park, Skateboarding Street, Skateboarding Vert, Inline Freestyle, Skate Cross, and many others.
Inline Hockey
In the Inline Hockey finals, Spain won gold in the junior women’s tournament, followed by the United States and Namibia. In the junior men’s category, Slovakia triumphed over Spain and the USA.
Inline Slalom and Combined
Italy shone in Inline Slalom, with numerous athletes on the podium. Anna Minali triumphed in the Junior Women’s Giant Slalom, followed by fellow Italian Angelica Paola Quadrio in third place. In the Junior Men’s Giant Slalom, Latvia won gold with Georgs Smalcs, but Italians Cristian Rondi and Mattia Pè secured second and third place.
The Junior Combined saw an all-Italian podium, with Mattia Pè, Cristian Rondi, and Antonio Fanchini dominating. Italy also won gold in the Team Event, confirming its dominance in team competitions.
Inline Freestyle
In Free Jump, Senegal’s Dame Fall won the men’s gold, while Italy’s Francesca Brivio stood out, taking second place in the women’s event. China’s Zhang Hao won the Classic Freestyle Slalom Senior Men, with Italians Valerio Degli Agostini and Lorenzo Guslandi completing the podium.
Artistic Skating
Artistic Skating saw Italian and Spanish success, with Alessandro Liberatore taking gold in the Senior Men’s Single, while in the Senior Women’s category, Spain’s Paula Romaguera Pérez won the gold.
Speed Track
In speed events, Colombia dominated several specialties, with Kollin Castro winning the 200m Time Trial Senior Women and Juan Mantilla triumphing in the 10,000m Elimination Senior Men.
Rink Hockey and Skateboarding
In Under-19 Rink Hockey, Spain emerged victorious, followed by Portugal and Argentina. In Skateboarding Street, Brazil’s Rayssa Leal won the women’s gold, while Japan’s Toa Sasaki triumphed in the men’s competition. Finally, in Skateboarding Vert, young stars Gui Khury (BRA) and Arisa Trew (AUS) dominated the men’s and women’s competitions, respectively.
