PARALYMPICS GAMES PARIS 2024

(a) The Closing Ceremony of the Paralympic Games brings the curtain down on proceedings in France’s capital on Sunday 8 September.

(b) India finishes the Paris Paralympics 2024 campaign with a total of 29 medals – seven golds, nine silvers and 13 bronze. The Paris Paralympic Games 2024 concluded for India on Sunday, with Pooja Ojha the final athlete in action. Ojha failed to qualify for the women’s kayak 200m final and bowed out of the competition.

(c) Archer Harvinder Singh and sprinter Preethi Pal were India’s flag-bearers at the Paris 2024 Paralympics closing ceremony.

(d) British archer Jodie Grinham became the first athlete ever to win a Paralympic medal while pregnant; taekwondo practitioner Zakia Khudadadi won a first-ever Paralympic medal for the Refugee Paralympic Team; while American Matt Stutzman, also fondly known as the “armless archer”, won gold 12 years after earning his sole Paralympic medal (silver) at London 2012.

2. In Asia Cup Hockey, defending champions India beat hosts China three-nil at Hulunbuir.

3. The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said that India will bid to host the Youth Olympics in 2030 and Summer Olympics in 2036. Addressing the 44th Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly in New Delhi .

4. Telangana Government has announced ₹1 crore cash reward, Group-II job and 500 square yards of land in Warangal for Deepthi Jeevanji who won bronze in the women’s 400 meters T20 category race in the Paris Paralympics earlier this month.

5. Veteran sports administrator Randhir Singh is set to be elected as the first Indian president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in the 44th General Assembly of the Asian body on Sunday. Randhir, was a former Indian shooter.

6. The BCCI announced India’s squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh on Sunday, September 8. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant returned to Test setup after missing the last assignment against England but there was no place for Shreyas Iyer in the 16-member squad.

The Indian team will return to action with the two-match Test series starting on September 19. As reported earlier, the ace pacer Mohammed Shami has been given an extended rest and is missing the team for the first match in Chennai.
