(a) Despite logging the second-best throw of his career to date, Tokyo 2020 champion Neeraj Chopra had to settle for the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday.
(b) Neeraj, despite not looking his best and logging just one valid throw of 89.45m in his six attempts in the final, managed to do just enough to finish behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won the gold medal with an Olympic record-shattering 92.97m attempt.
(c) Nadeem’s medal was the first individual Olympic gold won by a Pakistani athlete at the Olympics. It was also the first medal for the country since Barcelona 1992.

2. Vinesh Phogat, Paris 2024 Olympics: The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s verdict on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal to award her joint-silver medal. We can expect the verdict from CAS today (August 9).
3. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement yesterday, a day after she was disqualified from the wrestling final at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Vinesh was disqualified from the Gold medal match of the 50 kg Women’s Wrestling for being overweight by 100 grams.
4. India wins hockey bronze at Paris 2024 Olympics, beats Spain 2-1. Two goals from captain Harmanpreet Singh either side of the half-time hooter were enough for India to take its second bronze medal.
5. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met double olympic medalist and Indian shooter Manu Bhaker. In a social media post, Mr. Singh said that Manu Bhaker has scripted history at the Paris Olympics by winning two Bronze medals for the country. He added that every Indian is elated by her incredible performance. The Minister wished for her future endeavours.
