2. In Badminton, India’s pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty reached the semifinals of men’s doubles of the Malaysia Super 1000 badminton tournament.
3. India cruised to a six-wicket victory over Ireland in the opening match of the three-match Women’s One-Day International series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot today. Chasing a target of 239, India reached the mark in just 34.3 overs, powered by standout performances from Pratika Rawal and Tejal Hasabanis. Rawal smashed 89 runs, while Hasabanis remained unbeaten with a steady 53.
4. In Tennis, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his companion Albano Olivetti of France lost to the top-seeded pair of Nikola Mektić of Croatia and Michael Venus of New Zealand 6-3, 1-6, 5-10 in the Men’s Doubles Semifinals of the ASB Classic tournament in Auckland.
4. In Boxing, Shiva Thapa, reigning Welterweight champion, began his title defence with a dominant victory at the 8th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh on 09 Jan. He defeated Enayat Khan 5-NIL in his opening bout. Representing Assam, Thapa, has earlier made history as the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics at London 2012.
