1. In the Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament, top Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen stormed into the Men’s Singles final. In the semifinals, Sen outclassed Japan’s Shogo Ogawa 21-8, 21-14.
(b) Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the Women’s Singles final. She defeated compatriot Unnati Hooda with 21-12, 21-9.
(c) Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela also moved into the Women’s Doubles final, beating Thailand’s Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard 18-21, 21-18, 21-10.
2. India lost to Pakistan by 43 runs in its first game of the Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, UAE on Saturday. Batting first, Pakistan posted 281 for seven in 50 overs on the back of a 160-run partnership for the first wicket between Usman Khan and Shahzaib Khan. Shahzaib scored 159 off just 147 balls with the help of 10 sixes and five boundaries.
In reply, India were bowled out for 238 in the 48th over. Nikhil Kumar was India’s highest run-scorer with 67 runs off 77 balls.

4. In the World Chess Championship, Indian Grandmaster D. Gukesh and reigning champion Ding Liren of China played out a hard-fought draw in the fifth game of their best-of-14 series in Singapore on Saturday. The second consecutive draw in the series has left both players with an identical score of 2.5 points each, maintaining a neck-and-neck battle for the title. With a best-of-14 format, both players are still far from the winning mark of 7.5 points, and the championship will require five more points from either player to secure the title.
5. Ladakh’s first ice hockey tournament of the season is being held as the 12th Late Lady Stanzin Otzes Inter-Village Ice Hockey Tournament in Durbuk village, located in the Lalok region. The tournament is organized with the aim of encouraging local youth to engage in winter sports. The Lalok region has historically played a key role in promoting ice hockey in Ladakh since the sport was introduced to the area in the 1960s.
