2. Latest rankings for women’s T20I batters
India Women’s: 17-year-old batter Shafali Verma has regained the number one spot in the latest ICC rankings for women’s T20I batters. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana, who was recently named ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year for 2021, has dropped one spot to be ranked fourth. Further, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu has jumped six positions to break into the top 10
3. Tokyo Olympics gold medal winner Neeraj Chopra and Paralympians Pramod Bhagat, Sumit Antil and Avani Lekhara were named among Padma Shri awardees announced by the Indian government on Tuesday. Paralympic athlete Devendra Jhajharia will meanwhile, be awarded the Padma Bhushan. Hockey player Vandana Kataria is also among the Padma Shri awardees
4. In Hockey, defending champions India have entered the semifinals of the Women’s Asia Cup tournament after defeating Singapore 9-1 in their last Pool A match in Muscat last night. With this win, India have also sealed a spot for the 2022 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup to be co-hosted by Spain and Netherlands later this year.
