ROME – THE ‘CAPUT MUNDI’ OF
OLYMPIC SKATEBOARDING!
World Skate presents both Park and Street Skateboarding World Cup events in the Eternal City to launch World Skateboarding Tour 2025!
World Skate proudly announces the upcoming World Cup Rome 2025, featuring both Olympic skateboarding disciplines – Street and Park. This premier event on the World Skateboarding Tour (WST) returns for the 5th year, bringing along with it a global skateboarding community to one of the world’s most ancient cities.
The World Cup will kick off with the Park event from 1st to 8th of June at the famous bowl in Ostia, Lido di Roma. The home crowd eagerly await local hero and Olympian Alessandro Mazzara!
The second week of June will be dedicated to Street skateboarding, from the 8th to 15th. Framed by the Colosseum in Parco Colle Oppio, the skatepark built by Sport e Salute will see the world’s greatest athletes battle it out to the last trick at a weekend crescendo broadcast live around the world both online and via satellite television.
The two events will see the participation of 365 athletes from 51 countries.
The event is organised by the Italian federation Skate Italia and Sport e Salute in collaboration with the International Federation World Skate – and is publicly funded by the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Municipality of Rome, Città Metropolitana di Roma Capitale and the Lazio region.
The Eternal City Embraces Skateboarding’s Future
Rome is rapidly establishing itself as a global hub and Caput Mundi of Skateboarding, with two world-class skateparks hosting these World Skateboarding Tour events: the Parco Colle Oppio street skatepark in the shadow of the Colosseum, right in the centre of the city, and the Spot, one of the biggest bowls in Europe, which is located in Ostia Lido di Roma.
Serving for the last 3 years as a training ground for elite international athletes, the city has become a skateboarding destination of global importance. These facilities regularly host professional athletes training for World Cup competitions, creating unique collaborative opportunities between visiting pros and local skateboarders – exemplifying skateboarding’s inclusive, family-like community spirit.
Transforming Communities Through Skateboarding
These two landmark skateparks have profoundly impacted Rome’s urban landscape, particularly in peripheral neighbourhoods. Beyond their architectural significance, these facilities have become vital community hubs, demonstrating skateboarding’s power to positively transform the lives of young people and families in previously underserved areas- and indeed to regenerate entire urban areas, breathing new life into parks and squares.
Ancient Heritage Meets Urban Innovation
The juxtaposition of Rome’s ancient grandeur with skateboarding’s youthful energy creates a compelling narrative. As the oldest city embraces one of the world’s youngest competitive sports, these open-air events showcase sustainable urban sports against Rome’s historic backdrop, rather than confining the action to conventional arenas. This dynamic combination mirrors skateboarding’s phenomenal social media success during recent Olympic Games, where the sport’s authentic culture resonated globally.
