In a very sad incident, 25-year-old ten nis coach and emerging player Radhika Yadav was shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their residence in Gurugram’s Sushant Lok. The killing took place on July 10 and has left the local sports community and the public stunned.
Family Tensions Turn Fatal
Radhika was in the kitchen at the time. Her father was allegedly angry with her increasing independence and celebrity status, firing several rounds from his legally held revolver. Four bullets hit her, instantly killing her. Investigators suspect the motive to have been domestic tensions that dated back years, with a focus on financial issues since Radhika worked as the main provider.
Family Conflict and Community Pressure
Deepak Yadav is said to have felt insecure about his daughter’s growing popularity and financial gains. Neighbors teased him for relying on Radhika’s income, police sources disclosed, and it was possible that this heightened his insecurities. These undercurrents of tension, which had been building over the years, horrendously burst into violence.
Radhika’s mother was at home when the incident occurred. She initially believed gunshots were a matter of kitchen sounds and only discovered the reality when it was already too late.
Final Rites Completed in Gurugram
On July 11, Radhika’s funeral was held with family, friends, and students from her tennis academy in attendance. The funeral was somber, as many in the sporting community in Gurugram mourned the untimely passing of a devoted athlete and mentor. Tributes came flooding on social media from other players and coaches, who recalled her as passionate and devoted.
Legal Action and Investigation
Deepak Yadav surrendered after the murder. He has been arrested and is being questioned. The motive is being probed in detail and other material, including CCTV records and personal content of the victim, is being perused by officials.
A case of murder has been registered formally, and officers are not dismissing other psychological or external factors that could have driven the act.
