1. The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022™ scheduled to take place on 11-30 October 2022 will be held in India as planned. The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will now be successfully held in the country in October.
2. Discus thrower Navjeet Kaur Dhillon fails dope test, suspended for three years:. Dhillon, a Commonwealth Games bronze medallist from 2018, tested positive for a metabolite of the anabolic steroid Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (DHCMT).
3. India registered a five-wicket victory against Pakistan in their opening bout of Asia Cup 2022, as the Rohit Sharma-led side chased down a target of 148 runs in the final over.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya played a stellar role with the bat, Hardik slammed an unbeaten 33 off 17 deliveries, including four fours and one six, as India chased down 148-run target in 19.4 overs.
Put to bat first, Pakistan was restricted to 147, with wicketkeeper-batter Mohammed Rizwan emerging as the top run getter, scoring 43 off 42 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4/26) was at his skillful best and his four wicket haul included the prized scalp of Babar Azam (10)
4. Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry will organise- Meet the Champion initiative in 26 schools across the country on the occasion of National Sports Day on Monday. Few of the prominent athletes who will be the part of this initiative are Commonwealth Games and World Championships Gold Medalist Nikhat Zareen, Paralympics and CWG medalist Bhavina Patel, Tokyo Olympics and CWG medalist Manpreet Singh among others.
5. The Union Sports Ministry has invited applications for National Sports Awards 2022. This year onwards, applications are being invited only in online mode through a dedicated portal. Notably, September 20 has been set as the deadline to apply for the awards. The list of awards includes Dronacharya Award, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award and Arjuna Award.
6. The Pakistan Cricket Board announced that gate earnings from the first T20I of the seven-match series against England in September-October will be donated to Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund 2022. The match will be played in Karachi on September 20.
