1. The colourful opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games will begin tomorrow at 11:30 PM IST at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham England.
2. Two-time Olympic medal-winning badminton player PV Sindhu has been named India’s flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 in Birmingham.
3. Union Cabinet has approved the signing of guarantees for hosting Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Under 17 Women’s World Cup 2022 in India.
The tournament is scheduled to be held between 11th and 30th October this year. The seventh edition of the biennial youth tournament will be the first-ever FIFA women’s competition to be hosted by India. It will encourage more youngsters to participate in sports and help develop the sport of football in India.
4. In England, the Leicester Cricket Ground has been named after India’s legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar.
He was the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs and once held the record for most number (34) of centuries. He was also part of the Indian team that won the 1983 World Cup.
5. International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that India will host the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. India, Bangladesh, England and Sri Lanka were named as the four hosts for ICC women’s white-ball events from 2024-27.
6. *IND vs WI Third ODI Highlights* :
a. India on Wednesday clean swept West Indies in the three-match at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
b. Chasing a target of 257, West Indies were bowled out for 137.
c. India 225/3 in 36 overs (Gill 98*, Dhawan 58; Walsh 2-57) beat West Indies 137 in 26 overs.
d. Shubman Gill was stranded on run-a-ball 98*, two short of what would have been his maiden international hundred, as rain made a reappearance in Trinidad. It meant that overs were lost and India’s innings was abruptly snapped at 225/3 after 36 overs.
