BOXING: Lovlina Borgohain beat Germany’s Nadine Apetz 3-2 in the women’s 69kg Round of 16 match by split decision to enter the quarterfinals.

HOCKEY : Men’s: India beat Spain 3-0.

SHOOTING : Indian shooters in 10m air pistol & rifle mixed team have bowed out:

(a) Saurabh Chaudhary & Manu Bhaker finished 7th in qualification stage 2, while Abhishek Verma & Yashaswini Deswal couldn’t even clear the first hurdle.

(b) Elavenil Valarivan; Divyansh Panwar & Anjum Moudgil; Deepak Kumar failed to qualify as well.

TABLE TENNIS : Sharath Kamal lost to Ma Long 4-1 (11-7, 8-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-4) in the men’s singles third round. Men’s: India beat Spain 3-0.

SAILING : Varun Thakkar and K.C. Ganapathy finished 18th in Race 1 of the 49er class; Nethra Kumanan is placed 33rd overall at the end of six races in women’s laser radial; Vishnu Saravanan currently sits in 22nd spot after six races in the men’s laser standard.

BADMINTON : Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty beat Great Britain’s Lane & Vendy 21-17, 21-19 in men’s doubles pool A match but couldn’t qualify for the quarterfinals.

Star wrestler and one of India’s biggest medal hopes at the Tokyo Olympics, on 27 Jul (Tuesday), missed her flight to Tokyo from Frankurt. Phogat, who was training in Hungary with her coach Woller Akos ahead of the Games, were to reach Tokyo on Tuesday night but she was stopped at the Frankfurt Airport before boarding the connecting flight to the Japanese capital. It was said that, Instead of 90 days as per her Schengen visa, it was calculated that she had been in the EU for 91 days after she landed in Frankfurt from Budapest.

Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw felicitated weightlifter Mirabai Chanu who won a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics, and announced a reward of Rs 2 crore and a promotion in her job in the Northeast Frontier Railway. Chanu, hailing from Manipur, was promoted as an Officer on Special Duty (Sports) in the Northeast Frontier Railway in April, 2018.

Turkmenistan has secured its first-ever olympics medal as its weightlifter Polina Guryeva won silver medal in the 59kg weightlifting category in Tokyo olympics.
