2. French Olympic Committee (CNOSF) President Brigitte Henriques announced her resignation a little over a year before the start of Paris 2024 Olympics.

The tournament will begin on July 26, 2024 and end on August 11. Henriques was the first woman to lead Olympic sports in France.

3. Sindhu advances to semifinals of Malaysia Masters, Srikanth out. Sindhu, seeded sixth in the tournament, beat lower-ranked Zhang 21-16, 13-21, 22-20 in a quarterfinal match that lasted one hour and 14 minutes. Sindhu faces seventh seed and world number nine Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia in the semifinals on Saturday. Tunjung upset second seed Yi Zhi Wang of China in the quarterfinals 21-18, 22-20. In the men’s singles, however, Kidambi Srikanth lost to Indonesian qualifier Christian Adinata 21-16, 16-21, 11-21 in 57 minutes in the quarterfinals to bow out of the tournament.

4. Manchester United thrash Chelsea 4-1 to secure Champions League return. Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford were on target as the Red Devils moved up to third in the Premier League.

5. PM Modi declares open KIUG with grand opening ceremony.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually declared open the third edition of the 10-day Khelo India University Games (KIUG) at the BBD University Cricket Ground here with a grand opening ceremony organised to mark the occasion. Over 4000 athletes from across the country arrived to take part in the tournament with the mantra of ‘kaushal, niti and dhairya’ (skills, strategy and patience)
