1. World Championships tougher than Olympics, happy I won India a silver medal: Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj Chopra expressed his delight at winning India a medal at the World Athletics Championships after 19 long years. The 24-year-old Tokyo Olympics champion won the silver medal in men’s javelin at the World Athletics meet in Eugene, USA with a best throw of 88.13m. Neeraj Chopra became only the 2nd Indian athlete after Anju Bobby George in 2003 to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships. Anju had won the bronze in women’s long jump at the world meet in the 2003 edition in Paris.
2. The Indian men’s hockey team left for England for the XXII edition of Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. The mega event will be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8, 2022.
The Indian men’s hockey team, led by Manpreet Singh, is placed in Pool B at the Commonwealth Games along with England, Canada, Wales, and Ghana.
3. India’s Annu Rani finished seventh in the women’s javelin throw final with a below-par effort of 61.12m at the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Oregon.
Her series read 56.18m, 61.12m, 59.27m, 58.14m, 59.98m and 58.70m. She has a season’s and personal best of 63.82m.
4. Cricket, India will take on West Indies in the second ODI tomorrow at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. The match will begin at 7 P.M. IST.
