2. Indian badmiton star Lakshya Sen’s silver medal winning feat at the All England Badminton Championships helped him break into the top 10 of the latest BWF World Ranking on 22 Mar.
3. He became only the fifth Indian ever to reach the summit clash of All England Championships, improved two places to become world number 9 with 74,786 points, surpassing reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore.
4. A 29-member Indian team, led by Paralympian Dharambir, will take part in the 13th Fazza International Championships World Para Athletics Grand Prix beginning in Dubai on 21 Mar. The Championships will kick off the World Para Athletics’ Grand Prix season with around 500 para-athletes from 43 nations to be in action.
5. Kazakh weightlifter Nijat Rahimov, who won gold in the 77kg at the 2016 Rio Olympics, has been banned from the sport for eight years for a doping offence and will be stripped of his medal, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said.
