1. Taipei Open Badminton tournament, third seed HS Prannoy defeated Indonesian veteran Tommy Sugiarto 21-9, 21-17 to storm into men’s singles quarterfinals.
2. The opening match of the Global Chess League took place at Dubai, showcasing a clash between the Triveni Continental Kings and the upGrad Mumbai Masters.
3. Indian contingent at the Special Olympics World Games 2023, passed the 50-medal mark on Wednesday in Berlin. India has so far won 55 medals (15 gold, 27 silver, 13 bronze) spread across five different sports – athletics, cycling, swimming, powerlifting, and roller skating.
4. In SAFF Championship 2023, the Indian men’s football team defeated arch-rival Pakistan 4-0 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. For India, captain Sunil Chhetri scored a hat-trick while Udanta Singh Kumam scored the fourth goal in the 81st minute.
5. 54-member Indian team for Asian Athletics Championships has been announced. The team features long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, Asian record holder shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor and new decathlon champion Tejaswin Shankar. The team also includes javelin thrower Annu Rani and sprinter Jyothi Yarraji, among others. The championships will take place in Bangkok from July 12 to 16.
6. International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said IOC will support Ukrainian athletes who want to be part of Paris 2024 Olympics.
