2. World Championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen enters final of All England Open Championships. Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia.
3. The 20-year-old Sen became only the fourth men’s singles player after Prakash Nath, Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand to reach the final after outwitting Lee 21-13, 12-21, 21-19 in a gruelling semifinal match that lasted one hour and 16 minutes.
While Padukone (1980) and Gopichand (2001) are the only two Indians to have won the prestigious event, Nath (1947) and women’s singles player Saina Nehwal (2015) had lost in the final.
4. The Indian men’s hockey team slumped to its third defeat in the FIH Pro League, losing 1-3 to Argentina in the shoot-out in the first leg match after both the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the regulation time at the Kalinga Stadium Bhubaneswar on 19 Mar.
5. Indian archers clinched two gold and six silver medals to finish second behind Bangladesh in the overall standings of the Asia Cup World Ranking Stage 1 tournament on 19 Mar.
6. International kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambia was murdered at the behest of Canada-based Snover Dhillon, who was running the National Kabaddi Federation of Ontario, over professional rivalry, the Punjab police claimed on Saturday.
7. Sri Lanka will be hosting Asia Cup 2022 from August 27 to September 11. The tournament will be played in a T20 format. The qualifiers for the same will be played August 20 onwards. There’ll be six teams in the tournament, which includes India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka and a qualifier. Notably, India are the defending champions.
